Basket Weave - another 1.5" strips project

I have been impressed by how many strips I really have - all three sizes (2.5”, 2” and 1.5”) lately. So, while my black and pastely rail fence 1.5” strips project is almost done - well, I’m well on my way to getting finished - as while I just showed you some - there has been some progress since those pics were taken.

So, I thought I’d work on another one.

I decided on this layout.

I’ve wondered if they would like something like this for a QOV. If so, then you could make it this size. This would be a 60”x80” quilt, which, if I remember right, fits well into the QOV regulations.

I’ve decided to make the smaller size - about the 60”x80” layout. I’ll detail that later as I go along.

The quilt top is made up of a rail fence block - kind of opposite of the other one I’m doing. First of all, I’m using all shades of blue and all shades of red - plus white in various designs.

It is on point.

The blocks look like this: They are actually 7.5”x7.5” before being finished - they finish at 7” square.

I will work on this from time to time and go ahead and add the rows as I have enough to do so. It may be a little easier with this design as it will be a less obvious if the colors are similar since the layout is on point. The on point layout means that the rows are not going to be showing up straight across the quilt as a horizontal layout is.

In case you are wondering, while I’ve not done a whole lot of 1.5” quilts - but here are some of the ones I have done which feature 1.5” strips and squares. These are taken from Upcycleds Blues and Greens to various other upcycleds and just plain strips quilts. Except for the ones that I showed from week to week how I did them, most of these are on the free patterns page.

I then took the strips and sewed them together in the rows that I needed.

After that I took them to the main floor and placed them on the floor and took some photos.

I then took them to the sewing machine and sewed them together. I managed to flip the last row. Before getting back to work on these, I may flip that last row as I don’t like how the plaid print shows up regularly in a line.

Here is closer up version of the plaids in that row that is created. I will flip that row before the next update.

So there you are - this is the first one of this kind. I’m actually very pleased with the look of this one! Surprisingly so.

And that’s it for this update. I want to do this top in segments as well as I don’t want to do all these little ones featuring 1.5” strips all in one…they are just so much work! I’ll work on them slowly. I have several other projects going on in my life as well.

Below are projects I’ve made featuring 1.5” strips!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
