Tiny Rail Fence update, part 3

This one is coming right along. I have been doing some cutting, so whenever I ended up cutting some 1.5” black strips, I channeled them right to this project.

I decided to make enough blocks to add 3 row again this time.

Once I finished them I took them down to the main floor and take pictures and make sure I had no mistakes. Remember those first two times?

All was fine! I could then take it all back upstairs and add the three rows on to the middle main part. I ended up adding two rows to the top and one to the bottom. I did that because of the additional yellow in these blocks and I wanted to put more yellow at the top of the top.

Once I checked out the photos and realized I had no mistakes to fix, I went ahead and added those three rows to the top.

Current size is 64”x88”

With this addition, I am now at 8 finished rows with the additional 3 rows I just added. I’d like to think I’m going to finish at 12 rows, so at 8/12 done, that means I’m 2/3 done- but really MORE than that since I’ve got other little pieces put together.

I’ve decided that I will just go ahead and make all the pieces I need for the last 4 rows. I figured 11x4 = 44 blocks. Each block is 16 pieces so it is 704 little 2 patch blocks. So I will now keep track of how many pieces I have until I get together 704 little pieces. Well, it is minus a few since I had two leftover blocks and a couple of pieces.

I needed a total of 648 more little black/pastel 2.5” squares. I’ll keep them in a zipper top bag. Once I get all I need, I’ll put together the next four rows and I’ll be done. It’ll take me a while, I believe. I may need to go scrounge around another 1.5” strips bag to try to find more blacks.

Anyway - this is where I am now.

I do like it. It may make a person a little bit dizzy, but we’ll see what happens after I get it quilted. I tend to like the patterns that use small pieces because I like the ensuing detail. There isn’t too much detail in this one with such a simple block, but you know what I mean.

I feel great about this because so far I’ve been able to either use recently trimmed up strips (before I even weighed them in the monthly cutting reports) OR I pulled from bags of strips I’ve already cut. I may have to resort to cutting up new black if I can’t find more. We’ll see if I can find more strips so I don’t have to do that.

It’s all okay. The point here is, I’m getting close to getting finished - so that is great!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading!
