Gifts for Lena

Lena, a Ukrainian lady who has been in Poland for two years is going to be heading back to Ukraine soon. She has helped us a lot during the last two years - especially that first year with the shopping and the quilts.

She helped pack and shop and pack some more.

I kind of wanted to get her a present for her leaving, but was kind of stumped as to what to get her. Hmmm.

She loves pink more than any other adult I know.

So….

I decided to make a few things for her with PINK as the theme.

I made this bag - and added charms.

I hung this key ring with some charms on the D ring I attached.

In the bag I put this.

And here are the closeups of what’s inside this xlarge cosmetic bag!

And inside each cosmetic bag was another smaller one.

I gave it her on Sunday as a sort of goodbye gift. :) I hope she enjoys it for quite a while.

She wrote me later on Messenger and told me it was wonderful and she loves it!

I did make each of them a different fabric. I would have loved to make a whole set of the first fabric but I wanted to hedge my bet just in case she didn’t love that green and pink floral fabric as much as I do.

I gave it to Lena in the kitchen on Sunday after church when there were three other Ukrainian ladies. They kind of laughed when they saw the bag inside a bag inside a bag and said it was just like the Russian dolls! They liked it!

I had fun making these on Saturday. They were a nice change and since I had everything (pattern, zippers, interfacing fabrics, know-how) already, the hardest part was choosing which fabrics to make into cosmetic bags!

I really did enjoy the tote bag shown above. The bag pattern is found on this page. I did add a zippered pocket to the inside and nestled a D ring inside a seam which I then hung the charm keychain on. Obviously I added those wonderful pink pompoms for a totally fun look! Lest you think it is too young for a 40 something year old lady - SHE LOVES IT!

I learned how to add the zippered pocket (freehand almost) by watching Don Kim on You Tube - as he adds a zippered pocket to almost every single one of his bags he puts up.

All in all, she loved everything! I had fun day of making some things that were quick and easy!

We can pray as she heads back to Ukraine that she can find a job and get resettled there….and that she will stay safe as she is heading to a part of Ukraine which is close to the Russian border. Her 17-year-old daughter is there as well as her mother. Please remember her in your prayers.

Thank you all for caring for the Ukrainians!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Thanks for coming along with me on my journey!
