February 2024 Strips Cutting Report

I’ve made a decision about the future of this particular project - this cutting up of my scraps into strips.

I have SO much - so many strips. I’m swimming in strips!

So, since I have people around me who really can use these scraps or cut offs from the charity quilts, I have made a decision to just continue to trim off my backings, as you would assume, of course, but I will not keep most of them them.

I have myriads of bags leftover. I had 11 LARGE bags of 2.5” strips and plenty of 2” and 1.5” strips.

Plenty. I promise. I do not really need anymore for quite a while.

So, while I will continue to save leftovers from my quilts which are not charity quilt backings - especially if they are specialty fabrics - I will pass on the scraps of the backing that I have so much of to others in our area who want to make things - whether it is for kids’ projects, for charity quilts (Eva and her mom) or maybe a teacher or two. I just don’t need it all.

I have so much!!!

So, I’m not going to get rid of all those strips I’ve worked so hard to cut up, but I am ready to share the cut offs. All of them.

Can you tell I’ve reached the point where I say “Enough’s enough”?

Yes, is a sort of carry over from what happened last week.

So, the rest of the year I will cut a LOT less than the last few years. I do want to cut up my amazing leftover scrubs fabrics that is in boxes (into squares) but these fabrics where I bought 50-100 meters of - I’m kind of tired of it AND I already have so much.

As I work on getting a bunch of charity quilts done later in the year, I know I will have a LOT more cutoffs to share with others.

Anyway - here is my report for the month of February. From now on, these reports will be smaller. I will still go through the scraps monthly, but some will just be channeled over into a give-away bag. Maybe even I’ll open up the give-away bag to anyone in Europe…I’ll think about that. Maybe it’d be fun to ship them to someone to let them share in my excess. :)

2.5” - 1.32 lbs.

2” - 0.11 lb.

1.5” - 0.11 lb.

And here is my summary for the year to date.

And here’s where I’ve kept track of how much I’ve cut since I started this.

And you know, even though this month I didn’t cut much, I went ahead and did cut the equivalent of one “Jelly Roll” which costs between $30-45 depending on what it is and when purchased. So, even if my numbers are way, way down because I need to slow down my acquisition - and don’t need any more of the same thing - this is not a bad amount. Reclaiming that much in value from scraps - not shabby at all.

Plus I have a smallish bag of things to move on to someone else.

So, it’s a win/win.

There you go. In March I will be in the states, and so I won’t have one of these for you, so I’ll pick this back up in April with my next Strips cutting report.

Thanks again for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
