"Tropical Checkerboards"

All finished - one I’m calling Tropical Checkerboards.

This quilt is number 19 in my series of quilts trying to use up 2.5” strips. I literally did just cut leftovers I had in Florida into strips and made up this top back here in Poland with those strips I had cut.

Similar fabrics - different border arrangement

I had made a similar one while there in Florida from tropical prints as well but actually prefer this one as I put a white sashing strip between the middle and the outer borders to give my eyes a little break. It changed it for me and make me really like it!

I do not know where the one on the right is - maybe still in Florida?

If you can see up close, the fabrics are designs of the sea, tropical florals, etc.

I made the binding in alternating pink and blue because I had it and it went well with the overall theme.

I did add the three borders to the outside of the checkerboards - a white, then a smaller print and then a wide outer border. This quilt is SO fun! It’s cheery!

I’m thinking of sending this one with my husband on to Alaska when he goes to visit his brother and his wife because they have often visited Hawaii and seem to love it. I thought bringing a little of the tropics to their daily lives might be nice.

Here’s the quilt roll:

And the quilting

This quilt is just a classic checkerboards quilt and can be made by making any 16 patch with dark/light and putting them side by side until they make the top the size you want.

This particular group of fabrics were leftovers from the 2023 All Florida Shop Hop fabrics and other tropical looking fabrics I was working with while in Florida in 2023.

I liked all those little pieces and I decided to just make them into this simple quilt.

It is part of my 2.5” series! Maybe this could be something you’d consider making!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Oh - please don’t forget to vote for Quilted Twins here in this byAnnie local quilt shop contest….if you would be so kind.

We have til the end of February and you can only vote once! We need about 500 more votes to get to the top. Only 100 to catch third place!

We kind of got a late start due to all the fair stuff and the Shop Hop preparations! :) But we know we can get there!

Thank you!
