A Little Upgrade to my Long-Arm Room

Recently I was working in my long arm room and Mike was downstairs. I had taken quite a few of my Polish bolts of fabric which is mostly used for backing, to that room and had the bolts lined up next to the wall.

I was having a problem with them because they were just flopping all over the place. I couldn’t get into the dresser where I was keeping the thread, because of how I was trying to keep the bolts propped up to be even a semblance of up and down. This picture shows what I’m talking about a bit if you can look to the right on the picture.

Anyway, I walked out to where he was working and asked if he could make me something to hold my fabric bolts so they would stand straight up - preferably two levels. Something like a bookcase - but a very basic one.

So he did!

I told him I needed something so the fabric doesn’t sit directly on the floor so he found a piece of something to put on the floor in between the legs of the shelving unit.

He was trying not to spend any money on it - just using what we had, which was fine by me. I helped him this morning and we moved it into location.

I then started to move the bolts onto it. I had to roll one of them onto some of the cardboard I used as the center core so that took some time - otherwise, it is impossible to stand 50 meters (yards) up and down - have to be rolled or folded somehow.

I haven’t moved all of the bolts I have to it, yet, but this is what it looks like.

This whole piece of furniture has allowed me to move all those precut backings to the top shelf and also some of the cotton/poly battings I have to the top shelf and really allow me to straighten up the room.

And that makes me feel a lot better!

Of course, I’ve been working in here trying to make serious progress on my own tops this January. And I have. Just not today. I’ve been trying to finish one a day (except for Sunday) of these quilts in an effort to really just get some of my older tops all finished up.

So here is what it looked like today as I closed up shop down there. (I did spend quite a bit of time just emptying trash, sweeping, cleaning up stuff as well as organizing.)

Note - the precut pieces at the top of the bookcase are ready to go for the next round of charity quilts. They work perfectly for the 60”x80” tops I have already made.

In the next few days I hope to be able to get the rest of these Polish produced fabric bolts that are in one of the rooms upstairs moved to this shelving unit. I think there is room for most of it.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
