"Around the World Minis" - version 1

This top is made up of all the colors that I really do like! I went with the blue sashing because it was just such a pretty color and went with most of the blocks.

I just went through and chose strips from my 2.5” bags and played around with the colorations. Sometimes I used light in the very middle and a couple of times, you can see, that I had dark in the center. I didn’t try to make them all the same.

I did use a scrappy binding . I also made the tops and side borders colors in two different fabrics. Purple and pink. It was fun. When I do that, I always feel like I’m breaking some quilting rules.

I did make the individual Around the World little blocks 11x15, That meant each block was 22”x30”. Not insignificant!

I did see that the pinks and blues are great together plus all those other colors.

I really don’t know which of the looks I like the best.

From a distance.

Some closeups of some of the blocks.

It is so pretty! I really love it!

I really did pull all of these strips right from my bags of strips. I did not go and supplement from my stash in any way. Well, wait. The sashing - I did and the borders I did. I had to for those.

This is a large quilt - finishes at 101”x106”.

The quilt roll:

I did use a modified bargello construction to make these blocks. I sewed strips together in groups and then took them apart at places in order to make the blocks. I did have a printed out copy of the block in front of me, but since each block was different, I was just focusing on keeping the design going the right direction.

Each block did take about an hour to make. But it was worth it to me. I was able to use up what felt like boo koos of strips and it turned out very pretty!

I have not made up this pattern yet. I’m trying to figure out the most efficient way to explain to you all how to make such a block. It involves a lot of sewing in strips and cutting and then removing seams. So far, I’ve not figured it out. I do have more 2.5” strips set aside, however to make yet another one in a different set of colors. At that time, I will take pictures and notes and try to get it into writing!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
