“Double 9 patch on point” - part of the Upcycled Greens series
This is one of the least inspiring quilts I have ever made.
In my way of rating my own quilts, I’m giving it a 2/10— maybe even a 2+ because I did do a decent job of both the piecing and quilting. It is the design that has issues.
I didn’t use NEARLY strong enough greens for the 9 patches to show up. It is true, that this is what I had. Anyway, I should have used whites in the background and not blues.
I’m sorry.
I’ve not wanted to show this one to you.
I quilted it with straight lines hoping that the straight lines would emphasize the fact that there are actually 9 patches there since many of them almost disappeared into the background.
I used my Janome to quilt this one with, what you can see are straight lines. I had sandwiched it before heading to the states in late February but it just stayed in my sewing room while I was gone. I’m not ready to attempt ruler quilting with the long arm.
I did use a scrappy binding from various upcycled greens I had picked out or saved.
I’ve done much better.
Anyway, while this is part of my Upcycled Greens series, it is mostly blue. The green part is where I used greens for the 9 patches. The problem, naturally, is that the colors simply weren’t dark enough to stand out against the light blue background.
I used a scrappy binding, as I’ve done with the vast majority of these quilts in the upcycled greens series.
I also used a backing made up of second hand fabric - it was a “just large enough” sheet.
This is number 30 in my Upcycled Greens series. I have not written up a pattern because I don’t want this one on the front of a pattern. :) Maybe the next one I will. This one is on point with the background pieces being pieced with 3.5” squares.
The little 9 patches started out a 3.5”. Here are the blocks - to the right.
The alternate blocks are pieced blocks — from various small 3.5” pieces of mostly upcycled blue shirts.
Here’s the quilt roll:
So here is my Upcycled Greens series so far. There are 36 quilts in it.
I’m sure that many are here that you like and possibly a fair few that don’t appeal to you. That’s pretty much how I am with this series. However, I have finished most of these to date - but haven’t shown them all to you.
Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
