Spring Basket Quilt!
Boy are these large flowers! Remember them?
I made them in March - while traveling. The blocks are something like 16-1/2”x16-1/2” square. Really big! By the time I added a 2-1/2” sashing strip between and then at the top and bottom of each strip, it made for quite a large-ish quilt.
When I came back to Florida, I found an appropriate sashing fabric, and was able to make this top from the blocks I pieced while we were in Indianapolis.
The original quilt as in the book\ is only a 3x4 layout but I changed it to a 4x4. This made the quilt quite a bit wider. I did want the quilt taller than wide, however,—at least square.
Because of that, I added some extra borders at the top and bottom. I just wasn’t psyched up to making some small intricate blocks to go there - especially since the blocks in the center are so large - I wasn’t sure it would even look right. I really just need it to it would stay on a queen size bed.
So, I went wild and put in a red strip. I have often wondered why people don’t put more red and pink together, except for Valentine’s Day.
Anyway, I went for it.
I had made the flowers with both pinks and reds - so why not emphasize that idea with the little border strip? It’s my quilt - so I can make it how I want it.
I had to take the pictures outside on the grass - once again something I’m a bit uncomfortable doing due to the critters outside, but I did it anyway as there is no room in my mom’s house.
The pattern is from Lori Holt’s book - Scrappiness is Happiness and she calls it Spring Basket Quilt. I am planning on just taking this quilt top to Poland and finishing it there - just like my Granny Squares top.
I will be working on several quilts from the newest book which we do have! That’s Prairie Home and you can get yours here. if you want to be prepared. I know it’s pricey, but there are gobs of patterns - I think well over 30 - and I like a lot of them!
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
