Update on my Crocheted Granny Squares

I thought it might be nice not to just ignore my whole crochet project now that I am back in Florida.

Obviously I’ve not been working on the squares like I was while we were traveling.

However, because each evening I go and watch Wheel of Fortune with mom, I decided to take my squares back with me and try to put the last round on and make some major (ahem!)d progress. I had a lot of the squares that were done all but the last round.

So this is where I am currently. I have 46 completed squares.

I found that I could add 3 outer rounds during each Wheel of Fortune show, while trying to guess the words along with mom.

I am pleased with my blocks now and wish I could finish up all my blocks very soon, but I’d really rather sew than crochet. I’m trying to save the crochet for moments when either I’m too tired to turn on the sewing machine or it isn’t appropriate to sew. I am finding, however, that it isn’t my personality to start a project in the evening when I am tired. (I mostly just want to relax.)

I have used quite a bit of that outer color and am debating whether or not I should buy another cone to take back to Poland with me. I will probably do so, rather than risk not having enough to finish up the afghan like I want. I think I figured I want a 10x12 layout.

We’ll see what I want to do. One advantage of crochet is that in Poland at least, it is a popular handicraft. This means there is a lot of yarn available, unlike quilting cotton!

I need to finish weaving in the outer rounds. I just got in my yarn needles. I’ve been doing minimal weaving with my hook, but I can see it will be a bit easier with a plastic yarn needle.

Once I finish this one, I want to learn to make some more complicated granny squares with things like daisies in the centers. I’ve seen some awfully pretty blocks, but I don’t want to mix such blocks with traditional granny squares. One of them looks more like a beautiful sunflower while the others just fun flowers. So, I guess you can see my crocheting in the future. :)

The following are some screen shots of things I would like to learn to make.

We’ll see.

I just need to figure out when I can work on them - preferably a time when I wouldn’t be sewing or quilting anyway.

There you go. Forty-six finished squares. Many, many more to finish!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
