“Tumbling Houses” - #71 in the 2” strips series

This quilt has been finished for a while now but I’ve decided to not write up the pattern yet.

Why?

I want to redo it. Remember how I redid a different quilt a while ago? (It was Test Pattern #49).

Well I made this top several years ago now and finished quilting it earlier this year.

It is one of those quilts that “almost worked”. Almost. The design is based on a BIG pieced Tumbling Block.

But not quite good enough for me to claim it as a quilt I want to offer as a free pattern.

Can you see what I did here?

Let me show you.

I like it - I really do, but I hope that a bit of a change to my “other block than the house one” will make it really good! We’ll see.

I’ve not really had the nerve to even show you all.

But sometimes it is necessary to show the “less than completely successful tops/quilts” as well - esp. as I’m working on the designs.

So, what’s not so great here?

First of all - the houses I like - but I should have probably made a big piece of fabric instead of pieced block as the “other block”. It would help the houses stand out. That is why this quilt didn’t quite work out like I wanted. The houses just really aren’t a standout like I wanted. And that’s really the main thing. I actually did enjoy making those blocks when I did them.

Oh, I also like the chain blocks that are were cut on the 60 degree angle. So much fun!

Subtle is one thing but almost invisible is something else! I will say in these pictures of the quilt hanging up, the design shows up better than in person, one on one.

And that’s why I want to redo this top.

This is number 71 in my 2” series of quilts and tops.

Here is my series so far! Most of these patterns are on the free patterns page. Just go look at the top of the page.

Sigh.

This one was so much work, but in the end, it does not meet my own expectations. But I do hope to redo it. I have plenty of 2” strips and squares so there’s that.

And that’s this reasonably brief report about number 71 in my 2” series of quilts and tops.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
