Gingham Plaid #2 with smaller squares

I finished this one up! This is my second gingham plaid quilt which I made after looking at the Lori Holt ones in one of her books.

Remember the other one I made? It is made with larger squares of the exact same fabric! I’ll show you both side by side for comparison.

I finished it a few days ago but I was determined with this one to quilt it with straight lines. I did use my Janome 8900 and just quilted it on each side of the seamline - about 1/4”, using my walking foot. I used poly batting and it won’t be a problem at all to have that wide of quilting lines with that batting.

The quilt on the left is made up of the 7.5” squares and on the right, the 4.5” squares. The quilts aren’t that radically different in size. I made the seond one this size simply because that is the biggest size I could get out of the fabric once I had cut the 7.5” squares. I used up most of the light green that I had in that particular fabric.

The difference in the greens is strictly the change of the sun and amount of light outside while taking these photos.

65”x79”

52”x68”

I do always like the look of straight line quilting. Naturally I’ve not done a lot of that since using my long arm since I’ve not started ruler work on the long arm yet.

Maybe someday. At this point I don’t have a desire to start it and that has to come first.

Desire.

I surprised myself by even wanting to make this one.

quilt roll!

However, it is surprisingly calm and such a quick quilt. It has a bit more depth to the pattern than a simple checkerboard - which I also happen to like!

A simple checkerboard is a classic design and always is pleasant to look at and we use it a lot in our charity quilts.

For December we are having a lot of overcast and kind of dreary weather. I’m not complaining at all, and as long as the rain stays at bay, I can get pictures easily. If we start getting rain all day and night, obviously I can’t take outside pictures.

I’ve been finishing up quilts but am about to stop for the year as I’m going to have to turn to getting ready for a trip to the states for my daughter’s wedding. I have to clean up on the main floor as I’ve been throwing fabrics everywhere (slight exaggeration) - but I’ve been trying to get several quilts finished and that always creates a bit it of a mess with batting pieces and leftover backing pieces as well as just searching through boxes and shelves for fabrics for bindings.

This one, once again, is a nice lap size. It’s 52”x68”. It is the largest one I could make with the pieces I had leftover of the medium green.

Thank you so much for coming along with me on this journey.

This is my Lori Holt series and I this is the current status of the finished tops. All of these tops/quilts were either patterns by Lori and/or from her books OR were mostly her fabrics. I have thoroughly enjoyed making these. The picture blocks have just taken my fancy and I’m enjoying making them!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
