"Strippy Bricks" - Blues strips #4 quilt
I decided I had to get on the stick and get some of my quilts done this year!
Here is one of the first ones I decided to finish. I had my stack of quilt tops matched up to the backings I had prepared. It isn’t my favorite of this particular group of quilts, but I did want to finish it anyway, and once finished, as usual, I do like it better than I did before.
I did bind it in red, but used a variety of red strips that I could find in my already cut up strips plus some I cut separately. That red I used in the majority of the quilt, however - I think I used up most of that as it was something from my bookcase of solids.
I decided to quilt this with loops and stars.
I did make each of these approximately 60”x80” though each of these are a tad bit larger than that. I am hoping to take these back to the states where they can be used as a Quilt of Valor should they be needed.
What made me even want to try to do this was because my sis had been to a QOV presentation at one of our local parks and they said that due to the cost of them, they weren’t going to be doing anymore. I kind of took it as a challenge to see if I could do some nice ones without it costing too much.
This one I actually didn’t even lay out on the EQ program but I just cut the pieces into 10” squares and then cut them into 5”x10” and put the red 1.5” cut strips on the ends. I made it into a half drop block style meaning I put every other row so that it was offset.
Of the 6 I’ve made so far from these rolls of strips, this happens to be the one I like the least, so I’m kind of glad to get this one done first.
I decided to call this one Strippy Bricks. As of right now I’ve not made a pattern for it, but I did tell you how to make it. I may go ahead and write up each of these for the free patterns page at least as a drawing with some minimal instructions. Naturally with these all using my strips rolls, there is a lot of sewing done before I started actually making the actual tops. That’s a huge head start. Plus, because my strips were a bit ratty, most of the time I’ve sewn 4 of these 2.5” strips together, I did not have 10.5” usable inches so they’ve been trimmed to about 10” before I start working on a top. I just have to consider these things when telling others how to make something!
But stay tuned. I’ve been finishing up quilts in the last week! And I’ve been really enjoying it!
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
