“Make Mistakes”

This is a recent finish from the quilt tops I made earlier this year. I am delighted to finish it!

I first saw the quilt on a You Tuber’s channel (Erika Arndt) and it intrigued me. She showed it for less than a couple of minutes in a much longer video, and I was curious. Since she gave the name of the quilt and that it was from Art Gallery fabrics free pattern age, I found it.

I then got lost on the Art Gallery website as I checked out their patterns. I spent a lot of time there!

The pattern is found on Art Gallery fabrics quilt patterns page. It’s found here and there are several pages of free patterns. Be sure to check them out!

When I appliqued the letters on, I did use Heat n Bond lite.

This one is called Make Mistakes is here. I usually try to recheck the links when the blog post goes live - but here it is.

I did just quilt it with random wavy lines.

I didn’t know what to do with any sort of fancy quilting so I sort of copped out and just used my Janome and used wavy lines. But it is good for me to never forget how to quilt with a regular machine, if I want to call my Janome 9450 a regular machine (ahem..cough, cough).

The pattern is well written.

Once again - by forcing myself to use a different person’s design, I was going outside my own comfort zone. It has an off centered layout and some applique.

Of course, I used my own color scheme. These fabrics are not from a coordinated set of fabrics by any stretch. I did try to make sure they ‘went together’, however. They varied from Polish produced to VIP Concord to a blender, etc. If I remember right, I started with the green background and coral flowers as my first fabric. I then worked from there, looking for fabrics that would ‘work’ with it. I knew I wanted to use that blue denim-ish fabric behind the words. That’s what I started with when pulling fabrics.

And yes, I do like it a lot!

Here’s the quilt roll.

So, just a reminder - don’t forget that there are a lot of super nice patterns out there by the fabric companies. Often they are free - and that is how it is with the Art Gallery patterns. And the fact is, some of them are just downright amazing - most people would be charging at least $12 each for such a pattern! Use those resources - and find some free patterns to try and save your money for fabric. :) (To spend with Quilted Twins, naturally!) :)

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
