Spur of the Moment “Nature’s Landscapes” top finished

I was fascinated by a bunch of fabrics that arrived in my last box that I sent to myself. It was a salesman sample - and not a whole lot of fabric involved. BUT there was a panel and I really just loved the fabric.

Plus I had some coordinates that would look nice with the panel pieces I had. They came with the panel.

I added some Paintbrush Studio creamy white background, some Moda Grunge skinny border/binding and some Stonehenge to make the collage section of the quilt look a bit bigger by putting a border on each side of the fabrics from the line.

When I got the coordinating pieces they were all cut 10.5” wide but varying lengths. The samples were stapled to cardboard as they were arranged for salesmen to share with shop owners and try to get them to buy them. Obviously I took the staples out and the cardboard off. Then I cut the 10.5” width pieces in half and had a variety of different length pieces but all approximately 5-1/4” wide.

I just decided that this layout was going to be like this - sash the blocks from the panel, throw in the teal border to add interest and, doing the best I could with fabrics I had, make another border from them in a collage style and hope I had enough to actually go around the border with the fabrics sewn end to end.

I did have enough! I did do some tentative measuring before cutting. My alternative option was to cut some pieces of the stonehenge or go find another coordinating blender in colors that would just “go” with the fabrics as sort of space holder. But that was not necessary.

Here’s how the top turned out.

This is a lap size quilt at about 58”x70”.

I’ll show you the finished quilt before the wedding. This isn’t a quilt to end all quilts, but it is one with beautiful fabrics (Michael Miller) and colors I know that my daughter loves. That’s why they are getting this one.

Their favorite activity has been hiking and spending time outside, so I think this will be a good fit.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
