“Apple-licious” revisited top finished
I was tired of this one just hanging around.
So I finished it up - as far as a top.
I did get the backing put together as well, so now I’m ready to finish it up. I have another small top I inherited somewhere along the line that I’m going to quilt the same way as I did the first one - with wavy lines on my domestic. I’ll show this one again after I finish it.
The fabrics are pretty much all Lori Holt except for some of the fabrics in the border. I did make this one one extra row and one extra column over the original. I also then just decided to add an extra white border around the outside. I will then use a scrappy binding of red, green, yellow and pink binding combo. I can’t wait to finish this one up.
The day you read this, I am planning on starting in on my February charity quilting.
I’m so glad I decided to do it this way. I’m really trying to limit myself to 20 charity quilts each month Jan - June.
Why? Mainly so I can feel “done” each month and turn my focus to other things. It really helped me in January to have a couple of days at the end of quilting the 10 charity ones I had time for - to begin thinking about the quilt tops I want to finish of my own (I have betweeen 20 and 30 of my own that I think I will say are ‘mine’ and not someone else’s tops or designated specifically for charity).
It is sort of like giving myself permission to “work some” and then “play some” each month. I really don’t like calling doing my own quilts “playing” because it’s not, but it is definitely more like playing than the charity quilts are.
ANYWAY….
I did make this Apple-licious quilt possibly a little less interesting to me than the other one simply by using all Lori Holt fabrics. I know that sounds a bit radical, doesn’t it? However, I do see a difference.
Here is the first one I made- draped over the tractor. I ended up giving it to my DIL and son because Jessica asked for it. They live in SC and she wanted it for a wall hanging. (I offered my newly finished quilts to all my kids and she is the only one who actually asked for one.) I don’t want the new one to be a wall hanging - as I do want it big enough to actually cover a body when sitting down - sort of like a “lap quilt”! :)
I do want to quilt this new one the same way I did for that one.
However, I think I have learned my lesson. If I do choose to do another quilt similar to this, I will definitely allow myself to go more wild and include whatever fabrics I have that qualify in the color range I am going for. By keeping to the only Lori Holt fabrics, I think I’ve made it a less interesting quilt - and that actually surprises me.
But I am going to like my quilt and I am super happy to have it close to being finished.
Here’s what I’m using for the backing on this one.
You can get this here - only $6.99/yard while we still have it!
Thank you once again for coming along with me on this journey!
