Prepping for the Fair

Rachael had to work this past week on getting ready for the Pasco County Fair.

One day I was able to go with her to the building where they put the goodies and help her put up a couple more quilts and various small items. Since Quilted Twins is in charge of Collura Cottage where the quilts and other crafty type items are, we had to go and take some cleaning items and other things brought into the store!

These things were in the back of her van for our quick trip to the fairgrounds. Now, let me assure that it isn’t far for us. My mom lives about 2 minutes from the fairgrounds by car and the store is only about 6 minutes away from it as well. So, it’s all very close.

They will be baking cookies, so cleaning supplies are always nice.

The building - Collura Cottage - comes with various chairs, tables, bookcases, and other things that can be covered with items or things hung on. There are also some walls. They had to use a lot of clips and try to remember what would be put in front of the items when putting these things there.

We also had to bring cleaning supplies for use in the kitchen as the people make cookies in there.

So here are a few pictures of this place “in prep”. We will show more pictures of the actual fair set up, so never fear!

I brought this one to the states because my DIL wants it. So, I’m sharing it with the fair first. Then we’ll take it down and it will start its journey to her house. The sewing machine stays as a prop.

Do you recognize the cosmetic bags?

This is all before it was finished. In other words, they kept working in the building trying to make it even more full! Things continued to straggle in to help fill up walls and empty places.

Some of you might remember this quilt - shown on the right? My Town Square quilt had been in a different location and we moved it to the back wall where maybe it will be seen better - and definitely more evenly hanging. Plus, we needed the spot up front where it had been for something more important.

I brought those two quilts with me because they are going to a new home - my youngest child — Daniel — well, his wife spoke up for them. Smart woman, huh?

My sis was on a hunt for some more small things to help fill out some empty counters and shelves. To be honest, she had to show these spots to me as my eyes were busy absorbing everything that was there - not focused on the empty places!

This past year in central Florida was a difficult one - especially from September on - due to the hurricanes we had in the area. Often people had much larger life issues to deal with than what to make for the fair.

We do appreciate all of the people who have given things to help make our fair as good as it is!

More pictures later!

Someone who was in the area while we were putting up a few more things told us that we had many more quilts than the one she went to in another area of Florida - Manatee county, I believe - which she said had maybe 12 quilts!

That’s sad. I hope it was because of the struggles people have faced this year and not because no one is quilting!

Anyway, we are grateful that we have a healthy and busy quilting community in our area. The ladies are always producing more quilts - most often for gifts for someone! We had enough quilts this year - but what we needed more of is stuff like other crafts and skills like cross stitch, crochet, beading, diamond dot painting, etc. Considering working on something for next year if you are in the area!

I will share more pictures of Collura Cottage later. Hopefully I can get good pics of all the quilts to show you!

Thanks once again for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
