Those Amazing Sandhill Cranes!

Flamingoes get a lot of the glory but Sandhill Cranes are all over this part of Florida.

The other day I was walking with my phone to the barn area and two cranes were walking up from that area straight towards me.

So I stood still and took a few photos and decided to just go ahead and make a couple of short videos. I mean, this doesn’t happen every day! As the video starts, you can see where I hang the quilts I finish here in Florida to take pictures. It is on the right just where the blue drum that is on its side is lying.

I thought for sure when they got close to me that they would get skittish and sort of dart away.

But they didn’t. I kept still and just sort of turned my body to keep taking the video.

Here’s the rest of the video. After this point, they were getting farther away from me and I just decided to continue to the barn area where I wanted to talk with my husband.

I have never been able to get such close up pictures of the sandhill cranes before, and I am delighted!!! I just ‘needed to do that’ at least once. There are two cranes that hang around mom’s pasture - and the neighbor’s. They walk most places but are quite capable of taking flight and going over fences, etc.

Often they will walk by the side of the roads, even, but so far, I’ve not see the dead body of one on the road! I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but just that I’ve not seen one yet.

I am so happy that the Lord let me get these close up pictures and videos of these two cranes. In the past we’ve had a set of two adults and a baby that hung around the pasture. Right now it’s just these two.

And now you know! Wildlife in Dade City, Florida!

We do have some crane fabrics. Now they aren’t as beautiful as these sandhill cranes, but they are cranes!! Only $6.99/yd!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
