"Neighborhood Houses"

I made this quilt after seeing Lori Holt do a video about the Neighborhood House block. a

Let me find that video for you so you can make it yourself.

Warning - it is based off a book that I don’t have. However, remember, I set out to learn how to make ‘house quilts’ in 2024? And so I have, at least the basic kind of houses. (I will probably eventually pretty much get all her books I can, except probably the Granny Square one as I’ve been making Granny Squares for years now.)

Anyway, here’s the video.

I really enjoyed making these fun houses. They are simple to make and very quick to do - at least surely much more quick than most of the blocks I tend to make!

Here are some nice close ups!

Now you can see how these blocks are made. They are made with most squares and rectangles and then you put the ‘easy corner triangles’ on some of the corners to create the half square triangle effect. Jenny Doan calls it “snowballing” a corner.

And here’s the quilt roll

I think I now have quite a bit of confidence about making simple houses. They are fun, and I could make a lot more before I grow tired of them! You may see a few more!

I’d like to try to some more elaborate ones, in fact.

Here is my Lori Holt series so far.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
