In Progress Quilts - Cats, applique, etc

So, I’ve been working on several quilt tops all at once.

I have spent quite a while cutting out the blocks for this one - it’s a cat one and the pattern is by Corey Yoder. I am going to make it as she laid it out (not the colors) but in a 4x5 layout.

It’s adorable. She had it on sale last month for $5, so I bought it. I figured the time in figuring out that tail was easily worth it to me! I started by making the first block just to make sure I understood how it went together and exactly how much fabric it took.

If you are interested in this pattern by Corey, you can get it here. Of course, I get nothing for that link - but sometimes people are interested in where I find things.

Oh - and Rachael is stocking the fabrics for next January’s Mystery Quilt by Corey Yoder. She talks about it here.

You can pre-order the fabric for this mystery HERE!

I am wanting to learn how to do more picture quilt blocks and I am finding that by doing other people’s quilt blocks, I’m getting experience and feeling much more comfortable with them.

I wanted it to be a happy quilt again, so I am using mostly my Lori Holt fabrics or things in those colors.

I’ve really gone through a lot of those fabrics lately. I will need a new infusion of them when I go back for Lydia’s hooding. :)

I’m also working on MY OWN house quilt block quilt with pink and black scraps. :) I hope it turns out as pretty as I am aiming for.

I’ve mostly let my Home Town applique quilt take a back seat to the quilts I’ve been piecing. I wonder if I will ever like applique as much. I love the LOOK of applique, though, so I will pursue working on this one until I get it done. I definitely do need more fabrics, now. I’ve been taking from my Lori Holt box for the various quilts I’ve worked on lately. I think because applique seems slower, I just have wanted to get piecing out of my system. And a lot of it. While I was in Florida earlier this year I didn’t get a chance to do much piecing. Then came back and I was not feeling well, so I didn’t get much done. Now I’m in the mood to “get something done”.

However, maybe I’ll force myself to actually put that first block together (glue it and then sew it) - as I think I’ve got all the pieces ready. I did make the long bias pieces for the flag pole and the flower and they were easy.

Then I’ve got a couple 2.5” squares quilts that I’m actively working on. I have 2 with the blocks all finished but need to work on the sashing. I’ve got another where I’m working on some 8x8 blocks and then one that is a version of my Sheet of Stamps. I have decided to make it with the larger pieces, so I will be curious how it looks once finished.

And there you are - what I’m currently working on!
