“Scrappy Islands” - #38 in my 2.5" series of quilts

This one is simplicity personified. Yes it is.

It is made up of ONE BLOCK. And that block uses only one size of piece in it - a 2.5” x 4.5” piece of fabric.

The block looks like this:

Yes it really does.

I’m calling it Scrappy Islands because of the sea of white that colorful blocks are sitting in. Each block looks like it is on its own in the middle of the sea. Truthfully each of those ”islands” is actually four blocks.

Let me show you the finished top. I made this one large, because I’m using up my bags of 2.5” strips.

I’ll bet you thought it was harder than this, right? One block - and only a background and then colorful strips? It’s really quick and easy.

Here it is with black as the background and using bright yellows, pinks and oranges. :)

You can use a variety of fabrics or repeat a few of the same. It looks nice any way you do it.

While I haven’t quilted mine yet, I will probably bind it in white to help reinforce the idea of these blocks creating islands.

The biggest thing you have to remember is to make all the blocks identical. Do not get the colors switched on the blocks or it won’t work right when it comes time to lay it out. Trust me on that.

Let me show you the size of the quilt you can make if you use one colorful Jelly Roll (Moda) or 2.5” strips pack of 40 strips AND one white. This one is 64”x80”.

I did write up the pattern and it is here in the free patterns section!

I hope someone can use it! It seems like a pretty universal idea that would work well for so many things.
