Finally - Big Scrappy Tulip top is finished!

I am not sure why this top felt like it took so long to make. Maybe it is because I kind of know I should be down in my long arm room, starting my charity quilting. It’s mid summer now and time to get going. But I keep putting it off.

Seriously - I will start August 1 if I haven’t by then. :)

But finally - I got this one done!

I used a variety of off whites/creams/and whites in the background and borders for this. It’s meant to be a scrap quilt - using various odds and ends. And I meant that. I made my borders different…especially the outer white/cream border.

The pieced 4 patch border was pretty intensive as I did use a lot of my 2.5” squares but I also used a couple of strips to help me make the units a bit faster. By that time, I was really getting tired of this one and everything seeemed very slow.

I did add the ladybugs. I am not sure what to do about the black dots on the ladybugs, however.

I’m consiering embroidery or something on my regular Janome sewing machine.

Here are a few close ups. I thought adding the ladybugs added a bit of whimsy to the whole thing. I actually love ladybugs and I know they eat the bad bugs that tend to hurt flowers and veggies. We do everything we can in our home to keep them alive.

Because I tend to make my binding a bit wider than 1/4” - often more like 1/2”, I made the ladybug on the binding area to be a bit deeper so it should still be fine after putting on the binding. I showed that by covering up part of the edge with some gold fabric above.

This top finishes at 60”x72”. It’s a nice lap size quilt.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
