"Antiquity" - another Quilt top finished
This is the third top I’ve finished with this fabric from Stephanie Slewinski from Moda. I started with a LOT of fabric - so much so, that I didn’t have space for the fabric in my fabric room - especially since I wanted to keep it together. However, by the time I quit making tops with this fabric, I will just put whatever is left in the sections where they belong - by color.
I’m not stopping yet. Even with this top being shown to you, I have one more on the floor in my living room at the moment (the blocks, that is) and one more I cut out at least some of the blocks earlier today. But I will eventually be down to where I am okay with just putting the fabrics into the shelving units I have. I think I will actually have the lights leftover, and I’m really fine with that. We’ll see.
This block is a 12” block as I made it.
This one is a simple block called Antique Tiles - and I saw the block on Generations Quilt patterns. I hope you know about that site. If you don’t, you should.
But I drafted it into the EQ program and made it into this top.
I didn’t want to put the blocks right up next to each other and debated for a couple days whether I should put a green sashing or a cream sashing. The cream was the safe version, but I opted for the daring choice - and went with green.
I knew it would make the quilt top darker, but I did it anyway.
This quilt was made from 56 blocks and I tried my best to make each block different from the other.
I was specifically trying to do with very light in the middle, somewhat darker than that for the next part and the darkest in the corners. That meant a typical block looked like this:
I left the blocks on my living room floor for at least 2 days, and I spent varous times just rearranging them, trying to balance between the outside fabrics, along with the center and the mediums as well.
It was crazy.
Absolutely crazy.
I finally just stopped.
Of course as I was sewing them together, I saw some things I would have preferred to be different. But I spent so much time already that I didn’t want to change too much. I did move one - but maybe I’ll be sorry since I was only looking at one row. I may have made the situation worse.
I guess I’ll see. As I write this part of the blog post I’m still putting the top together.
I finished the top now and Yes, I do love it! It’s a large top - 94”x107”. The colors are deep and this will be an amazing quilt for fall.
So now this little series consists of these three tops. I do have two more cut out and I believe the last one will soon be cut out. THEN, my fabrics will be pretty much down to almost nothing and I will probably have to put the rest on shelves or use some of it in large pieces in backings. I’m kind of glad to see the end of it as while it is gorgeous fabric, I’m ready to move back to something brighter and happier and get back to my Moda trees.
I also have some of those of my own to finish AND some airplane quilts, etc. You got it. I have many things on my docket and am fine with moving on from this fabric. However, I’ve got it all contained in a plastic bin so that I can find it as needed.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
