"Beach Therapy" top finished

I had all this beautiful fabric which features a line called Beach Therapy by Beth Albert with Three Wishes fabrics. I had them all in fat quarters.

I liked all them - they were so cute! Several of the cut pieces actually NEEDED to be large because the prints were so big. I didn’t want to cut them up because there were just adorable designs on those fat quarters.

Several were smaller prints and could be left large or cut smaller.

I knew I wanted this one to be fast. It was going to have a light and airy feel and have a beach vibe, obviously. I did not want a lot of small piecing. I wanted the fabric to remain in tact as whatever it was as that design.

So…

It is definitely a summery look - or Florida/tropical, however you want to think about it.

So, I kept thinking of different things. I knew I could cut the big prints and surround them with the smaller ones. The fun thing was, I had 40 fat quarters which is 10 yards. I wanted to use almost of all my fabrics and not add a lot to it so that I ended up with a TON of extra fabric.

In the end, I added a Caribbean blender, a coral blender and and off white Moda grunge and a white Moda grunge but only a small amount which was used for those half square triangle corners. Each block also used 2 squares. I suppose with the photos, you might be able to tell the difference between the off white and the white - not sure how your monitors show it.

But, this one is a free pattern and really is just a 8.5” center square with some strips around it - using the same fabrics to create a 12” block with two corners having a half square triangle on it. When you match them up, the half square triangles form a design. I could have chosen darker fabrics to make the design stand out, but with this light ‘n airy design, I actually wanted what I got - something subtle, fun, breezy and something to actually have to look for.

I did keep the fabrics that are directional, directional, so there is a top/bottom direction to the quilt.

The top is 84”x96” so I call that a full/queen - not a huge queen, but big enough to have some overhang on each side of the bed. I didn’t have enough different fabric to make it an 8x8 layout - so I made it a 7x8 layout. Normally I do consider 86”x90something” to be my minimum queen size as the queen mattress is 60”x80”.

I did go ahead and make up my binding from the leftovers. I still have some leftovers, so I cut them into 3.5” squares. I’ll show that as a leftovers quilt later as I’m not done with it yet.

I had twice as many of the surfboards print as anything else. That meant that I had more of that leftover than anything. :)

If you are interested in these fat quarters, Rachael does have them ALL for sale. They are here.

The pattern is here - and it is a free download. Be sure to check it out. It would work for so many things!

For this quilt I had 4 fat quarters of each print and 8 of the surfboards, which I did not need that many. I did have some leftover of each of the prints.

Most of you who know me realize that this one is not my normal style. Most of the time I put some sort of sashing in there to separate the prints so one can enjoy the individual fabric designs. However, I decided to go ahead and just follow the pattern and just enjoy the ease of this pattern.

Because this one has no sashing or cornerstones, it went together very quickly.

No border either.

It has big blocks as well.

I mean, it couldn’t be much easier.

So, enjoy - most of Rachael’s bundle packs would look in something like this - just make the points on the corner different enough to stand out!
The pattern uses black as you can see.

So there you are. This is a new top finished. I hope to finish up this quilt top during the summer - along with the other tops I’ve made recently. I don’t want to get a big backlog again like I had before!

Thanks again so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
