My next set of Lori Holt quilts started

What started my wanting to make any of Lori Holt quilts was her quilt called Home Town.

I just loved it. I’ve loved house quilts but have made only one (plus one top) to date. I want to make a whole slew of them though! I really do like them.

I did make this one, however.

Let me show you.

This one is called Warm Fuzzies. I still like it and no, I did not give this one away. It’s a pixelated quilt meaning every piece is a square - so no big pieces in it. However, it did go together “not terribly slowly, but slowly”. I enjoyed it thoroughly in spite of that.

Of course, a little while ago I finished Hillside Houses - at least I finished the top.

That is shown below.

When I was perusing Lori’s blog one time earlier this year (January I think), I came across this quilt. It’s Home Town.

I fell in love with it. Seriously. The colors, the houses, the way it was put together. The part that was scary to me was/is the applique.

I read about what all was needed and once I saw that she actually shows you week by week how to make the blocks, I grew more confident. When I went back to Florida, I asked Rachael to get me the set of templates for the houses which she did and I brought back with me to Poland.

I do not have the official fabrics, though. I do have, however, a mishmash of Lori Holt fabrics and even more that will work fine along with them as I used in my Mercantile quilt.

I realized I needed the bias tape makers, so I ordered those. Finally I have a whole set.

I was (am) not sure about all that applique, however, so I decided to do the Mercantile quilt in the meantime (while I gathered my courage to work on this one).

So, I will say that I have started on the Home Town Quilt, but just barely. In the future I hope to show you some of the blocks as I finish them. I think each one will take a bit of time, but hopefully step by step I can do them. :)

I decided that as I was perusing through one of my books with Lori Holt designs in it that I wanted to make a couple more that involve only piecing.

One features apples - and I think it looks cute. I started cutting the squares just to make some of those apples.

Then, there is another one with more houses. I have cut the center squares for them. I figure I can do that easily enough before I get going on the houses that surround the center square.

When I started today I had 18 of these squares cut out but I decided to just get the rest cut as well. Here they are.

There are no repeats here.

In the photo above you can see that these fabrics should be able to sort of imitate the look of that town square as shown in the book.

I got this book a year or more ago now but haven’t made anything from it.

Both the apples quilt and the Town Square one are in it.

But I also found a freebie that has the same vibe here. I want to make this one as well. I want to make it more light-hearted than this neighborhood is, however. It seems “darker” than I want to do.

I know some of you are thinking I’m being overboard.

Well, maybe I am, but I really am learning new things by trying out these different patterns. I am sure the things I learn will translate into more things for myself. I’m learning how the authors are doing things, and that is good for me and hopefully for you in the future!

(Ok - 100% transparency here - I have designed a few quilts on the EQ program (Electric Quilt) but haven’t known actually how to make the blocks as EQ doesn’t give instructions on actual construction. So, I figure it’s time for me to learn from others as well to help broaden my own abilities.)

So there you are. It’s what I have in the works (at least part of what I have in the works.)

Thanks so much for coming along with me!
