Trying a Little Something New
Something has been niggling at my mind in the last year or so.
I know you will think it is crazy to spend time thinking about it.
But I’ve never put in a with a zipper that has two zipper pulls on it.
I’ve been wanting to try to put an extra pull on one of the cosmetic bags I’ve made so many of and try to see how it goes.
So, this time, I used my bag of 2.5” already cut up squares in my happy colors or what I think is 30s colors - or at least somewhat like that. I’m not a purist here and haven’t looked at my books of what fabrics are what - checking out each fabrics. I mean I know some of these are straight from the 70s. However, I used whatever I had that I liked the look of.
I used the free Riley Blake taco pouch pattern and once again looked at the video by Cindy - one of the owners of Riley Blake designs. I wanted to refresh myself on putting this thing together.
I decided this time to use stiff interfacing on the squares side and I used a less stiff interfacing on the lining fabric to give that fabric some body.
I did add a binding of sorts to the inside of the lining along the boxed corner so there are no raw edges on it. I also added a tab on the outsides to help grab the edges if needed when opening and closing the zipper.
I did add an extra zipper slider to the zipper - and it worked like a charm. I mean, I had to play around with it a bit, but it worked out well. I talked with the ladies at my local findings shop to make sure the zipper sliders would work with the zippers I already had. The lady assured me if they were all the same size zippers, the sliders they sold would work with them.
In the end, I added some pretty pulls to the zippers to both sides.
I think it is so pretty. I will probably try to do this from now on for these larger cosmetic bags that are this shape. I really love the look!
I did consider sewing along the edge of the squares, but decided that since I didn’t actually have any batting in there…well, what was the point? So I didn’t.
So…I tried something new this week. I just wanted you to know, it’s not that hard.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this.
