"Colorado" finished
Well, it’s time to get going on showing you some of my finishes that I’ve not shared yet.
This is the first mystery quilt that I made from Edyta Sitar - her 2024 mystery. She gave us the clues over the course of a few weeks and it was done. I’ve not been totally confident about mystery quilts, so I waited a bit to start - not sure why since I do like pretty much everything Edyta does. However, I did save the clues and just finished the top after a few weeks. (I’m still in the middle of her 2025 one.)
Then, I finally quilted it lately.
I chose to do a kind of very spikey stippling - but it is very dense. I really like how it looks! I saw another person doing this kind of quilting and did my best to imitate her when I did mine. It looks cool on a low loft batting - doesn’t work so well on a puffier batting.
I think the biggest value of a mysery quilt might be that you commit to doing whatever the organizer decides unless you change the pattern.
For me - I had never done a Dresden block until she told us to do the Dresden sun block. In the end, it wasn’t hard at all, and was kind of fun!
If this is something you are interested in, here is the link to the clues. They are still on their blog.
Overall, I’m quite satisfied with it - I could have done a few things differently, especially putting the borders on, but I do like it! My husband commented on it, as well, and someone else who came over noticed it and admired it.
So, there’s that. :) But I like it, and that is great for me. I’ve not made many quilts like this, and wouldn’t mind doing some more. by that i mean, scenic piecing. I think I have downloaded a few from Art Gallery Fabrics free patterns when they were still up there. They had a few interesting ones with some mountains.
I grew up in WA state overlooking Mt. Ranier and my husband grew up in Alaska. We also have always enjoyed looking at mountains. I kind of laughed at the Lord’s sense of humor in sending us to very flat “Warsaw area” of Poland - which is more like Kansas than anything either of us (my husband and I) had in our childhood. My “choice” would have been in the mountainous part of Poland, if I could have chosen where we’d live.
Edyta is the one who gave the name of this one Colorado. I would have liked even more detail on the quilt design, but I’m fine with it. I did add the doors to the cabins because we just had a suggestion of a cabin with a square of fabric with a roof, but no door. I wanted doors. Onoce I realized the cream doors needed some sort of definition to the bottom because they blended right into the background, I put a row of stitches across the bottom of the cream colored doors.
So here you are. I hope you’ve enjoyed this. The weather is warm enough to go out and get some photos. The problem now is timing. I have to get out there and get photos right away in the morning before the sun gets behind the quilt - and then it’s really chilly still. When i saw early morning - I mean preferably before 8 am.
Anyway, that’s all part of it.
But thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
