"Wonky Blocks"

This is one of the quilts I found I had never shared as a finished quilt from back in 2024, and that is a situation I need to rectify!

These blocks were donated to me for my use, and I liked them - but they were all different sizes. They were just enough different to make it very hard to use together.

What to do? I was stumped for the longest of times. I know that with many things in quilting, often the answer will just hit you when your skills get a little more advanced or your horizons are broadened.

When I finally pulled these out again back in 2022, I believe, I decided to just make these blocks into wonky blocks - and use a very thin sashing between them.

I thought the very thin sashing would provide an interesting dimension to it as I usually use a much wider sashing than this one that finished at 1/2”!

Here are the pictures. I did make this into a queen size quilt - I added fabric to the sides, turned them a bit askew, and trimmed them to the size I wanted. Then I sashed them.

Enjoy the photos!

The colors were varied in this collection - but the consistent background kept to a light or cream of some kind helped make it be more cohesive and the consistent sashing strips helped this come together.

I will leave these all nice and big so you can see how I trimmed these up close and large.

As I looked at these photos, it occured to me that possibly I didn’t share these because some of the reds seemed to have left some pink on the top. I do not remember that situation, but I know where this quilt is, so I’m going to go find it and look at it again. I may just wash it a couple more times with plenty of color catchers.

I suspect this one (if I can get the pink out), will go with my husband to places farther east when he goes to teach. He just came back from the country of Georgia and I sent a quilt with him for a couple there.

Here’s the quilt roll -

There is no pattern for this, because it is just as I said - I added a border of cream-ish fabrics to the squares, turned my square a bit wonky and trimmed all the squares the same size.

So now you know!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!
