Shaded Checkerboards - part of the 2.5” series
This is a top I had started months ago now. For some reason I had put the finished blocks off to one side and I let them languish. I decided to just finish them as I wanted the container they were in for another project! There was no reason to not finish it.
It is part of my 2.5” series—as in number 53!
The fabrics on this are quite thin - and as such, didn’t want to lie nice and flat on the ground. Sorry about that. My bad. I believe it will quilt just fine, though.
The tan was a set of cotton sheets from my daughter in law. She knew I could probably use the fabric. The white is my thinner than I’d prefer white fabric I bought here in Poland. It is 120 gram weight and I wish I had purchased the 130 gram.
But I didn’t. So, let’s move on.
Anyway, here is a close up of the change of tan to white blocks.
Now here is the overall look of the quilt top.
Here is the layout. I did choose to make the large one - I believe it is 102”x102” because I added the borders. I also opted to use a floral border instead of more tan as I drew out.

I will be writing up this pattern and I do hope to get this one quilted up soon as I do not have a huge backlog as I used to have (of personal quilt tops). That is so exciting to me that now I have just a few waiting for backings and quilting! That’s kind of a new feeling for me.
In case you are wondering about my 2.5” series of quilts - here it is so far. I need to work on this particular series so much more! Thankfully I’ve been using these strips in my binding for the 100+ charity quilts and I do use a bit in for those!
