“Scrappy Jazzy Wonky Stars” Update
This quilt top is one that I am doing gradually as I was trying to just sneak it in on myself. It was a quilt along by Jessica Dayon earlier this year which I was starting as she was finishing. I did change up some of the things and no, I didn’t buy her pattern as I’ve made plenty of stars in my day. However, if you want to buy hers, let me link it.
I made my stars wonky - so there’s that. (She did not.) I also made my top bigger with more colors - This is my layout - and will be a sized queen sized quilt when finished.
I am making my blocks out of various 2.5” strips and various white backgrounds on the stars and white based low volume sashings. So, I am going along with Jessica’s idea which is why I’m making it. I hope some of you buy her pattern because of me. :)
Here’s the first stage of completion when I was working on recently. I was going to quit at this point, but then decided to get a couple more rows done so I’d be almost half done!
This quilt top is now about 1/2 finished. I’m trying to just do it once in a while in order to get it finished. Hint - I do have all the blocks made but have to dig around and find some squares in the colors I need for the cornerstones. I did cut enough of the sashing strips and for my quilt - it’s a crazy big number!
But here’s the thing. I am really liking it. I think it is turning out very pretty - and I knew this would happen….I’m getting a very strong urge to just “go ahead and finish it”. In other words, there are several other projects I want to start, but am not letting myself get going on any of them until I get this one finished (as a top).
In short, I’ve used a lot more scraps and strips from my various 2.5” bags than I thought I would. I know that a quilt this size uses about 10 yards of fabric - so there’s that.
I did go with several colors - in this order - red/orange/yellow/green/teal (blue green)/royal blue (sorta) and aqua, lt pink, and finally hot pink.
A good bit of this top will be in the cool colors of the greens and blues whereas the warm colors will be in the left and right top and bottom corners.
There you are - I have a feeling this one will be finished up soon - at least the top will be. As I sit here and write this blog post, I can’t help but think if I would get up early one day and just finish it, how good would that feel? I do that sometimes.
Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
