"Silly Siberians" - quilt finished

My sis gave me this panel a while ago now and I decided to just work it up into a finished quilt. I actually just made the top and took it to the states where one of our long armer friends quilted it.

The panel is not all that big - and we still have some. It’s here.

My husband is from Alaska and we had Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes - so there’s that.

This is another quilt I actually want to keep but I think I left it in Florida.

This quilt design is specific for this panel - so it is hard to know if I actually need to make up the pattern.

But let me show you the drawing from the Electric Quilt program.

It ended up being 47”x58”. It is about the smallest quilt I ever want to make as a regular quilt. But, due to the theme of this quilt, I’d like to have it for our own home in spite of its small size. The smallest one I’ve made that wasn’t a baby quilt was Applelicious by Lori Holt and I didn’t like it being so small. I wished I’d made it at least one row wider and one longer.

Anyway, I worked on this one using the colors of the blocks and my border fabric. I then went back and colored in the other blocks. There were only 8 blocks in the design and I really wanted a 3x4 layout so I needed to come up with 4 more blocks.

I was able to trim the printed panel blocks to 9.5” square, so that meant I needed to make the other blocks 9.5” square to go with them. I then decided that I was looking for things that made good 9 patches. I ended up making these four additional blocks for the corners.

I did not use cornerstones at all but used a long strip for the gray sashing rows.

In the end, I really do love how this one turned out. Let me share the pictures with you.

We had it quilted with paw prints. We like kitchy quilting. I know that some long arm quilters resist these motifs and prefer just using things that add texture. My sis and I like cute. Why not?

The colors in the blocks were just pulled from the colors in the blocks themselves AND the border. I did find this border fabric here in Poland somewhere - but my sis has some bright fabric similar to it in the store.

Do you like it? Do you all know someone with these types of dogs?

Let me assure you, as sweet as they are, they are not for the easily manipulated as they are terribly stubborn!

I have uploaded the pattern to the website and all the instructions are there. Enjoy.

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey.

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
