"Santa Hats" - another top finished

This is one of those tops that I wasn’t really planning on making. However, when I saw the quilt in Scrappiness is Happiness book by Lori Holt, I wanted to make it. It looked incredibly easy AND a totally fun quilt! I’ve been working on some intensive quilts by Lori (specifically Prairie Home and the Long Underwear quilt), so I was ready for an easy one.

Plus, I am adding it to my “things you wear” series of quilts by Lori Holt. This one was not difficult.

I mean, each block was easy. It was harder than a simple rail fence, but for the look, it was not hard.

Just out of curiosity - in total, here are the things you can wear quilts/tops I’ve made or am making because of Lori Holt’s patterns:

I’ve used some of the fabrics that Rachael and I put together in a red bundle when I was there back in April. I took the ends (IOW, when there was 12” left or something similar). I was able to make these amazing hats from various reds. Only about 8 of these are Lori Holt fabrics —the others are just others I found I had, either just added to my stash or things I have had a while.

For the background I used a solid in the shade of blue I was hoping for - purchased locally - it was in my stash already. The original pattern showed a Lori Holt print, but once again, I didn’t bring back a piece large enough for it, so I didn’t have that choice over here. So, I do try to use what I have - and in this case, while I find a solid a bit more boring, it’s fine.

I barely had enough of the white to get all the pieces needed. I ended up piecing a few of the 2.5” pompoms - but I made it. I was happy about that. It’s a piece I found in my low volumes - not a Lori Holt print.

Otherwise, I’m not sure what to say about this one. I started it back in July I believe, and tried to work on this in August, but frankly, I had almost no energy by the time I had spent the entire day working on charity quilts. Mostly I put my stuff to the side and just told myself I would get back to my other projects “in time”, if the Lord gave me strength.

So, now I’m having a blast, working on such fun projects!

Thanks so much for coming along with me on this journey!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
