International Jigsaw Puzzle Competition is happening!

Did you all realize there was such a thing?

Well, until last year, I absolutely did not have any idea someone turned jigsaw puzzling into a competition!

Who knew?

We thought jigsaw puzzles were a nice relaxing thing to do.

LOL. That’s funny.

Today starts the International Jigsaw Puzzle Competition held in Spain.

Poland has a number of competitors this year. I did watch it last year a lot. I remember it well because I used that time to sort my 2.5” strips into various bags by colors. That took a long time, but I was listening/watching (sorta) the competitors as they put puzzles together. I know it sounds about like watching grass grow, but it is more like watching water boil. These people can put a 500 piece puzzle together in an hour or less! Teams can do it even faster!

I found it interesting. We’ve always done puzzles, but certainly not on this level. For us, puzzling was relaxing, not stress inducing.

There are about 45 participants from Poland this year! I didn’t know about Polish participants last year at all.

So, here is the schedule - the first round of competitors start our time on Wed. afternoon at 4 pm (16:00).

This schedule is shown in Central European Time which is also our time zone! How convenient is that?

Speaking of puzzles, we do have some puzzle fabrics. Let’s see what we have.

At my suggestion after last year’s internationals, I suggested that Rachael put some jigsaw puzzles into the store so that people could use them as gifts, should they want to get something “not fabric related”.

You can check them all out here! Msybe later this week I’ll actually show you all of them. But we have some mighty fine ones!

Consider putting a puzzle together for your next get-together with your fellow quilters. It would be a nice change of pace for at least some of you! Others, just want to sew, sew, sew!

:)

And now you know. There’s really a World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship! It’s a REAL thing.
