Introducing our Mid-Summer/Early Fall Quilted Twins' Challenge
We here at Quilted Twins were struck with how much you all loved helping our veterans in last year’s Summer Challenge.
This year we learned that many female veterans have been making the quilts, but have yet to receive one of their own.
So, this summer/early fall, we decided to encourage those of you who love a challenge, to make a quilt for a lady veteran.
We spoke to Tammy, the Florida state coordinator, and she’s been asked to present 25 female veterans with quilts by the end of September. (And they continue to be at least 300 quilts behind in the total spectrum.)
So, we thought this summer, we’d have a two-part Challenge.
Part 1 of the Challenge
Becky and I went to work, along with our Challenge co-hort, Kathryn, who recently stepped in and taught a class for us here, and we came up with three ideas for veterans quilts that can be a little softer, a little quieter, and a little less in your face bold.
Obviously, we love a bold, patriotic quilt, but for the first part of this challenge, we’re asking for some of you to reach into your bag of tricks and make us up some quilts that would work for ladies.
Sarah and Jessica helped us pick out the fabrics for the quilt called Homecoming. We thought it would be perfect for a lady veteran, as it features home and the flag.
So, here’s the first one that Becky introduced last week on her blog.
This quilt features the flag and the home, two things that most lady veterans love and appreciate!
Then, we decided that maybe someone wants to make something quite patriotic looking, yet I wanted to make it softer, including some floral prints.
This one is called Rays All American Quilt. (You have to use your imagination on this one, as we haven’t made one of these up yet with the fabrics I’ve chosen.)
Then, we figured that maybe some of you would love, love, love, and love :) to get your own creative juices, so we compiled a couple of different patriotic-looking (as in featuring red, white and blue flowers), combined with some softer colors, so you can make up your own design with these 6 FULL YARD Bundle packs.
Of course, we will be changing out the exact fabrics as we run out of these ones, but you get the idea… a couple of florals and some reds, whites and blues that aren’t super “in your face” type fabric.
You can order your feminine touch QOV fabric bundle pack here!
Part 2 of the Challenge:
Now, since MOST of the veterans are NOT female, but are males, we also have hopes of getting you all to whip up some of the patriotic kits that we’ve been making for you all.
These include some of the ones shown above in the image on the table. You can click on each picture, shown below, and it will take you to the quilt kit.
We will happily count the original more traditional quilts, but we’d love to encourage some of you to find your softer patriotic side!
So, here’s the deal!
Make up any of these quilt packages (KITS). Now available under the search “QOV” on our site… and get them back to us at Quilted Twins as a completed quilt by Sept. 30.
(Each quilt kit or fabric bundle is only $48!!!!)
In exchange, we’ll be able to gift one veteran a quilt that you made during a ceremony! It’s always delightful to go to those, if you can!
We will be giving you a small gift bag as a token of our appreciation in participating in this year’s challenge!
ONLY THOSE QUILTS THAT MEET THE QOV SIZE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE COUNTED THIS YEAR. Last year we counted them all, but could only use the larger sized quilts. They need to be at least 55” x 65” up to 72” x 90” and ideally as close to 60” x 80” as possible. All of our kits with the patterns fit that size.
We hope that you’ll love this challenge, and help us to get the Veterans the quilts that will make their hearts sing.
Becky here (Rachael wrote the first part) Would you consider participating in this challenge? You will be benefiting our central Florida QOV organization, but we highly recommend this one!
I was so touched when I was in Florida for a QOV presentation when one of the recipients, a disabled older black man who was a Vietnam vet, said it was the first time anyone, anywhere, recognized in any sort of way his service for our country. He was so touched by the quilt, and we were touched by his reaction.
Now, let me say Thanks So Much for your enthusiasm, helpfulness and giving spirit. So many of you get behind all of these special outreaches/chances to help that we offer you!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
