"Big Star" quilt top finished

Sometimes you see the perfect fabric for someone you know!  You just have to buy it because that person just loves this item.

When I saw this peony fabric a few years back on fabric.com - (back when they used to have great sales which I've not seen in the last three years), I found this gorgeous fabric.  My sister-in- law in Alaska has been raising peonies - as the weather in their part of AK seems particularly suited to this flower.

So, I got this print - and I've had it - for at least a couple of years now. And since this is my year to "use up the fabric I bought especially because it reminded me of someone else" - I decided that "now is the time" to make her a quilt. My husband is planning on using up some miles and getting up to AK for a quick visit after our conference.  I'm hoping he can take it with him.

My problem was - it's a very large print.  Because of that, it's very impressive, but harder to use than a smaller print.

I've looked at several large print patterns, but I only had 2 yards of this big print - so I was somewhat limited as to what I could do. Many of the patterns I considered needed different amounts of fabric than I had.

So...I went to my Electric Quilt program and got busy.

I decided to go simple, but hopefully impressive.

I am calling it "Big Star" because that is what it is.

The star in the middle is 24" square. That's big.  And it is perfect for what I wanted.

In the end, I hope she likes black - because this is what she's getting!  If she sees this, she'll not be surprised - but that's okay - I wanted to share it with you!

This isn't my typical queen sized quilt - this is more like a couch sized quilt.

I'll do my best to get the pattern ready for when the quilt is featured.
