The Big Day finally came! Pasco County Farm Bureau dinner!

Last year were in town during a local insurance client-owned- business’s annual business meeting/dinner with my sis and her husband, I saw the buzz that was created when a hardware store gave away a chain saw as one of their door prizes that they had for this meeting. There was a lot of excitement! (It was the biggest prize.) They had a lot of door prizes ranging from a baseball cap with a brand name on it like John Deere to the plants that were decorating the building to two chain saws!

At that time I told my sis that I thought we should see if they would take a quilt as a door prize. So before we left town, she visited them at their office - the Pasco County Farm Bureau and they said “yes” they would gladly accept a quilt as a door prize - but the only request they had was that it was farm themed. That made perfect sense to me since they are the “Farm Bureau”!

So, I made the whole set back here in Poland and took it to my sis when we went in May of this year for my daughter’s graduation from college.

The whole set: Besides the quilt, I added 2 decorator pillows and 2 pillowcases. I have written about this set before - if you are a long time reader, you probably remember it!

I did put a label on it - I used my embroidery machine to make it after designing it with Embird - a basic embroidery program.

So the big day finally came – October 3!  I had been waiting for it.

Why? Well, I wondered how it would go over. I knew that I liked the quilt and set, but I’m me – not the people at the dinner.  My idea was to create some excitement like I had felt when they gave away the chain saw last year.  There was a little rumble/undertone of people talking about it when they said what the prize was.

I was willing to do it because I knew that my sis would get a lot of advertising from it - people were a captive audience all during the meal!

So, as the days grew closer to October, I kind of bugged my sis about it, and asked her if everything was okay with the whole plan, etc.

This is the building where the dinner was going to be.

She popped on over to the Farm Bureau about a week before the dinner – and found out that they wanted her to go over earlier in the day so she could hang up the quilts.  I had mentioned to Rachael that she would get much more advertising from it if she had them hanging up – rather than folded in a package sitting on a table and just announced. Everyone knows what a chain saw looks like - but a quilt? Each one is different!

She had to go over the morning of the dinner and hang up the quilts so she asked her son, Peter, to go with her to do the heavy ladder climbing and pinning!

It all worked out!  Here’s what Rachael did ahead of time.

They managed to hang the quilt along with the accompanying pieces in one place!

I knew that from a distance the bargello quilt would make people look! It’s just so bright!

I’ve never really had any of my quilts “hanging” before except on the line outside when I take pictures. I’m pretty pleased, actually!

Here’s the only picture I have of the dinner itself. You can see that people could not help but look at the quilt during the meal. They conducted the business of the member-owned insurance company from up there. They had time to look at them til they were tired of looking!

I figured that most of the “movers and shakers” of Dade City were there - so without doing a jig and a dance on stage, I figured this might be the best way to present unforgettable advertising for us! She wants EVERYONE to know that we exist in town!
