"Upcycled Greens" in its infancy stage
I have decided to get on with it. While I am not done cutting entirely all of the small pieces of scraps I have, I am getting eager to get going with the greens.
I showed you a pile of second-hand greens not too long ago because as I was finding them I kept tossing them in one place.
I decided to sort them all and get them out of that spot. As I was trying to push them into the containers, I just told myself, “Becky, just take the time to sort them - by styles/colors—something!”
I was finding it a bit difficult to work on designs with EQ because I didn’t know what entirely what I had. I know that most of you are aware that when we make quilts, we usually start with either fabric OR a pattern.
With my upcycled blues series, I started with the fabrics, and just kept working - often the next quilt was built off an idea that I gained while working on the previous one. Or I had a bunch of leftover pieces and wanted to use them up.
So, this is what I am starting with.
2 nice sized boxes of solids - and once I realized I had that many, I was so excited - you have no idea!
I separated out the plaids, then stripes, the florals and other designs, and then the tone on tone ones - with green/white or two different greens - plus I threw a pair of army pants in there as well - cut off in the picture.
Most of these are already chopped up, but my friend, Ewa, brought over a blue/green plaid shirt the other day which I just rolled up and put in there. I actually told her I’m okay with “no more” upcycleds- that she should keep them herself - except for greens! (Major step for me!)
When I say “I’m getting started” it means a few things including
designing on EQ of course,
making a place on the website
creating a place in my file of “My Named Quilts”.
Let me show you. Maybe it will help some of you. Others - just take it for what it is - my way to keep myself as organized as possible.
Starting with playing with some designs in the Electric Quilt program -
Then I created a file folder for them in “My Named Quilts” folder - which is my treasure trove of finished quilts and photos.
I went ahead and have made a place on the website for this series - it is going to be where the Upcycled Blues series and the other Upcycled series is. While I’m here, let me mention, that the website has a lot of information and pictures for your quilty eyes. You should spend some time browsing if you are new here. It’s under the heading “More Info” should you be curious.
At times I get impatient with content creators because I love everything they do and wish they could put something out every day or every week at least! Alas, it usually involves more work than a person can do that fast! I’s not realistic to expect them to put things out as fast as I want to devour it! But that’s why it’s great to have multiple content creators that you follow!
I’ve taken you on a little behind the scenes with how I’m going about this project! As of writing this blog post I’ve not actually cut into the first fabric, but do feel like I’m about ready to.
However, not today.
I’m writing this today, Monday - and have either a stomach flu or ate something that gave me food poisoning - so I’m going back to bed! No need for details! I got up today just to take the pics and write this post. For those of you who know me…that’s not “how we operate”. It’s normally “ Breakfast at 7 or 7:30 , dinner at 1, bed at 10 or 11” - and no lying in bed all day!
Anyway…..
Have a great day wherever you are are reading this!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
