"Show-Off" - "Upcycled Greens" #1 top finished

This is number 1 of my “Upcycled Greens” series.

When I sorted the colors and fabrics and saw how many plaids I had, I thought I could start whittling them down with this easy quilt pattern. Plus, I use larger pieces of fabric for this and so I need to make something like this with large squares at the beginning of the series.

If this series ends up like my “upcycled blues” series, I ended up making the later quilts in the series with smaller pieces. (This is logical since I would have cut up the biggest pieces already.)

I know you may be tired of my “Show Off” pattern by now. I’ve made it several times, but I had to start somewhere with this project. I will admit, that while working on some pattern ideas, I haven’t been totally inspired by my green selection of fabrics. I have a lot (A LOT) of solid greens and then quite a few plaids, about half as many with stripes and then a bunch of prints - which include a box of tone on tone - and then quite a few with all kinds of colors in them including green. So, the challenge is “real”.

In this one, I used pretty much all of the green plaids I had - regular plaids or “checked” - and called it good.

I will add that most of my greens are NOT a grass green or any semblance of it. It is mostly sage or hunter or some sort of a bluish green. So, if you are hoping for a nice selection of grass green quilts, well, this won’t be it, probably. Remembe…

I didn’t worry too much about whether it was a white based green or a cream or tan based green. Well, believe me, I did “worry about” it, but forced myself to use them together anyway. I went with a slightly off white/warmish white fabric (not a bright white) for the sashing and hoped for the best.

Sometimes the hardest part of all this is getting the creative juices flowing. For me, working with and looking at what I have helps that to happen.

When I made this Show Off quilt, I cut my plaids at 9.5” square and cut the pieces for the sashings and cornerstones at 1.5”. I used this pattern .

I also think of the Bear Paw block when I think of plaids. I’m considering what to do with that for the leftovers of these plaids. I hit them hard with this quilt, but I am reasonably sure I have enough to make a quilt using the Bear Paw or Bear Claw block.

And there you are - hope you’ve enjoyed this foray into the beginning of hopefully another wonderful journey - this time into greens!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this!

Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store! Lots of greens for sure!
