"Throwback 88"
All finished!
So excited to be able to say that! I am going to try not to let my 2.5” quilt tops get as far behind as I let my 2” ones get. (At least it’s a goal! - don’t laugh and don’t discourage me! It’s always good to aim high!)
I suppose you can easily see the “88” in this design as it is hanging here on my special line!
This one is very similar to my upcycled blues quilt called “Oases” found here. I did a couple of things different about this one, but you can tell it is basically the same thing with a few changes.
As I was choosing fabrics for this, in order to keep it with this nice “fresh and clean” look, I didn’t use browns and tans. I can’t say I succeeded 100%, but I was trying to choose the scraps that used fabrics without tans/offwhites or browns. I had hoped if I did that, that I would have a bright, cheery quilt. Of course, there are always degrees of such colors - especially when working with oranges and various shades of yellow/golds.
I will say that while I used all pieced blocks in the Oases, with this one, I used long strips for the black and white parts. That was definitely faster. Obviously it was also faster because the strips I was working with were 2.5” and not 2”.
Once again, I named it Throwback 88 because I was trying to replicate the idea of having scraps lying on a black/white checkerboard floor - like this: the idea of trying to get a design on the floor but you see the floor underneath it - that is what I was aiming for.
I know a lot of you have design walls, but my walls are pretty much all covered with something, so I use the floor.
The quilt roll:
And here you can see it hanging up outside in our very peaceful outdoor setting.
And there you go! I trust you have enjoyed this experience of seeing Throwback 88. I am not yet sure what I am going to do with the quilts in this 2.5” series.
Because they are put together faster because of the larger size pieces, the idea of parting with them is a bit easier than my 2” series. I’m still considering.
I want to give away 20 more quilts this year than I make so that I have a “net loss” of quilts in this house at the end of the year by December 31.
Thankfully apparently the post office is working again as people are letting me know they are getting the bags we gave away, so maybe I’ll use them as drawings or prizes, or something. I just need to figure out the costs involved. It’s all just thinking at this point.
Anyway, I’ve been working on the pattern. It’s here. I also updated the pictures on the 2.5” project page. That’s here if you want to take a look.
I hope someone can use it!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
