We love “free patterns” - and it’s a bonus if it is quick and easy - especially for something with such a specific and hopefully limited, usage and purpose.

Here’s some more information about materials from which to make face masks. It will help you make up your mind about what to use for materials! But it appears by this last link that pillowcase materials work great. And we know about pillowcases, don’t we? They don’t work as well as surgical masks, but are still in the about 60% effective rate (as opposed to 87% for surgical masks). Read that article I linked to!

I know that the use of surgical masks is up for debate as to whether or not they are actually useful in stopping the spread of this virus. But you know what…it never hurts to be careful, right?

You can make your own in probably less than an hour!

Here in Poland the hospitals were out of masks for regular people at the hospitals, so area seamstresses were helping out. Rachael’s Note: It’s now Tuesday night, and though everything in Florida is relatively calm tonight, things are quite ramped up from last Tuesday night. Store shelves are empty of supplies, several sit-down restaurants are now only offering carry out and we went past several of our favorites that have shuttered their doors. I sure hope it’s only temporary. It reminds us of just before hurricanes here in Florida. Schools are off now until April 15.

We do want you to know that we realize that face masks will NOT stop you from getting the virus, since viruses are very small particles that can get in and around the masks. Only surgical ones that are available (probably very expensive ones) found in hospitals for surgeons are the ones that can do this. However, this can keep you from touching your face and possibly spreading bacteria and other germs. It can also protect you from some of other people’s “fluids.” It can also help to keep some of your own coughs and sneezes to yourself.

IN NO WAY do we want to add to the Corona scare that’s going on. We just wanted to show you how to make your own mask with a FREE pattern. Use up your scraps. Make them pretty.

We sure do appreciate your support and we wouldn’t be where we are today without YOU! —Rachael
