Accessories to "Show Off the Farm"
I freely admit. I didn’t understand the appeal of those pillowcases “everyone” was talking about until I made some in the last couple of years. Now I do.
The idea of matching pillowcases is so much fun. No one else has one like yours!
I made two to go with the quilt for the Pasco County Farm Bureau and 2 throw pillows. I use the bandana fabric in the colors I used in the sashing and cornerstones. I hope I’m right that farmers like bandana fabric. I think I am. I know ranchers do. It just “goes with” this type of theme.
They call how I made the pillowcases the “burrito” method. I didn’t look it up this time since I’ve made several before - I just remembered. I bet most of you here already are familiar with it, but in short, it’s where there are no raw edges at all showing on the inside - both the top cuff and the side seams are completely encased. I used French seams on the sides to get that to happen. Otherwise that You Tube link shows how in short.
I made the throw pillows by fussy cutting 2 more 9.5” squares from some of my nice farm fabrics to match what I had in the quilt, surrounded them by cut 2” strips of the slightly off white or “snow” fabric, and the surrounded that with cut 3.5” outer borders. It made it big enough for me.
With the throw pillows I opted to leave the back as “no design” and make it a flapped back so the pillow form could slip in the back - and that way I didn’t have to put in a zipper.
I’m not afraid of zippers, though. Just didn’t need to. I’m planning on putting 18” forms in the middle. The pillows are probably about 17” right now. It is fine, however, to put an 18” form inside a 17” pillow case. It just makes them more “puffy”. I did top-stitch around the edge of the decorator pillows.
And there you go - my accessories are ready to go for when my Show Off the Farm quilt is ready!
