Old World Fantasy!! 2020 Mystery Quilt - Week 7
Finally!
Today’s the reveal!
Before we get to it - let me be the first to say “thank you” for being willing to do a mystery quilt with me. I know at least two of you are doing it! I also know you are taking a risk to go along with someone who hasn’t done it before. It is a different matter to design a quilt, but another to write it up in such a way so that none of the pieces are missing by the time of the reveal while not giving it away or doing it in blocks.
All along my husband reassured me that people didn’t know where I was going with it - so quit worrying about it. (I figured you all easily figured out the design!)
But I did. I do. I have worried about it. I have a deep sense of responsibility that when we are finished, you have a quilt that at least “most people” who make it will like.
One can never please everyone’s taste. I know that.
But then, there’s the problem that “I” might make a mistake or miscount. I want to say that I am sorry right now for any mistakes or errors in numbers. You all are my testers - like it or not!
But then, I had the idea that I should not tell you everything until the end.
And that is how it is here.
I have more “thing” for you to make — another “set” of these strips like you did in week 5.
Yes. I only told you to make half what you need. Original clue was in week 5.
So, before you can put this quilt together - make a complete “other” set of 6 piece segments like this:
I told you the lap size needed - 32 - you need a total of 64 so make another 32 strip sets.
I told the full needed 96 - but you need 192, so make another 96
I told you the queen needed 128 - but you need double that - so make another 128.
I actually meant to tell you finish making those last week. I forgot. Please forgive me. I hope you have saved your scraps as I discussed with you. If so, possibly you have your leftover pieces from before. They are all lights.
I know you are ready to get this thing put together! For me, that’s the FUN part - well, it’s all fun, but the especially fun part!
I am not going to give you a lot of pictures here on the internet on how to put this one together - instead, I am giving you a pattern for you to download.
I’ll show you a few pictures here to give you an idea of some of what is involved, but download the pattern for complete instructions.
I will “szlifowac” it (polish it up) as I go along. That’s just the nature of something like this. At least it is for me. I’ll be taking feedback from you all as well if something isn’t clear.
I made the quilt in reds and browns earlier - back in February, and then just recently made a smaller one in grays and blues just to make sure as I went along I told you everything you needed to do - I did it too.
Here’s the blue one - with two different sun exposures! - Morning sun!
Early evening sun -
When I put together this blue and gray lap quilt quite recently, I went ahead and took lots of pictures with every step along the way.
I am putting it here in a slide show format. This will be the easiest way for you to click along and see what I did as I put together this quilt after the blocks were all made.
One of the questions people might have is how to put together that setting block.
I’ve made a slide show for you to click through showing the more difficult aspects of it. These pictures pick up with the outer round - and snowballing the last part. BE SURE TO SAVE THAT “Bonus Triangle”. You need it. I am assuming you will use it as part of the Mystery Quilt HST Border.
I have put together quite an extensive pattern with lots of photos. I put the photos at the end, for explanation, so that if you print out the pattern, you can just leave off the photos. Find the pattern at the above link.
Once again, thanks for coming along on the ride with me!
Have a wonderful day wherever you are reading this!
