"Throwback 88" top finished
I’ve decided to try to make some more 2.5” strips quilts!
I’ve made a page with these quilts. It’s here.
You have been asking for more of this size of scrap quilts. I know people have a lot of these because of all the 2.5” strips rolls that have been sold!
The reason I’m calling this top Throwback, is because it is reminiscent of the 50s or 60s — when black and white tile floors were popular.
When we visited places in the center part of the USA we were taken to some restaurants that had a retro vibe. They had this kind of big tile black/white flooring. I thought it was cool.
Most of you realize I tend to use my living room floor as my “design wall”. I decided that it would be an interesting look if you try to make it look like you were laying out a quilt on a black/white floor tile.
So, I embraced the idea.
Some of you might recognize this as the same pattern as one of the quilts in my “upcycled blues series” of quilts - one I called “Oases”.
I tried to make it look like we were looking at a bunch of colorful squares on that black/white tile floor.
In this case- the number “88”. While that is just how the pattern worked out, it is also the year my first child was born, so naturally the year has special meaning to me. But I didn’t actually make the “88” because of that.
To me, this one is simply “FUN”! I hope you think so as well!
This is also being added my new 2.5” quilts page. When I get the pattern finished, I’ll add it to the free patterns page.
When I did choose fabrics to make the scrappy part, I pretty much left out the muddy colors or the browns. I did incorporate pastels, though, as I have a lot of those. By leaving out most of the browns/creams/tans, it helps the colors just “pop”.
I’ll try to save out those colors and make a more muted browns/tans creams scrap quilt with 2.5” strips all by itself.
I also used “new” black and white - all the same. I thought it would most simulate a black and white tile floor. Again - for the best effect, these (black and white) were not pulled from my strips - I actually pulled out black and white yardage and cut them.
And now you know! This is one of the newest tops I’ve made.
Have a great day wherever you are reading this!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store!
