A Twin Project, part 2

Here we are.

I did finish the two tops. Now I will admit that if I had been able to head to the Quilted Twins store and find that perfect dog or cat fabric for these tops, I would have. However, I couldn’t, so I didn’t.

For this project, like pretty much everything with few exceptions, I am using what I have. I’ll admit, my “collection” is pretty extensive, however.

I’m using these layouts so that they are very close in size to each other as finished tops/quilts.

I chose dogs to go with the pinks and cats to go with the purples as that is what the respective girls like.

Here’s what I’ve done so far.

As I mentioned before, I thought I’d make them pillowcases to go with the quilts. Because I want to use up all the rest of the Paw Patrol fabric on the back, I went ahead and made the pillowcases first so I could feel free to use up every inch remaining.

Here they are! You can see I made one with the Paw Patrol fabric and one with the animal print plus their favorite colors. Hopefully even if they decide in a year or two that they don’t like Paw Patrol, should the pillowcases not be worn out, they can continue to use the other ones. How long do pillowcases last, anyway? Surely not ”forever”!

When making these pillowcases, I go ahead and topstitch the edges of everything to help keep them in place and maybe help eliminate the need for pressing after washing. People had mentioned the little flap wrinkles something awful after washing so …

When making these pillowcases, I go ahead and topstitch the edges of everything to help keep them in place and maybe help eliminate the need for pressing after washing. People had mentioned the little flap wrinkles something awful after washing so I decided to just stitch it down. I did the same with the edges of the outer cuff as well. That way all will stay in place and make it easier on mom and not feel uncomfortable!

Of course, I wish that I had had purple based cat fabric and pink based dog fabric, but I don’t. The good thing is, the dogs have pink tongues and there is at least some purple in the cat fabric! LOL

The key to these girls, anyway, is to keep it the same, but different. So that’s what I aimed to do.

Because the letters are different, however, I needed to adjust the sizes of the outer borders in order to try to end up with about the same size top. I wanted to use the same number of borders, lest I change the look “too much” and lose that “same but different” feel.

These really are cuter than I thought at first they would be. Of course, my sis has some gorgeous cat and dog fabrics that would have been perfect. But mine are fine! But you can find hers in a search for cats or dogs in on the website. Here.

But these will work. The girls are in Florida, so I’ll use some of the cotton batting I have on hand and finish these up in the next few days.

I’ll be sure to show you the whole set after I finish.

I am making these to finish about 59”x82”.

And there you are! This is one of the things I’ve been working on. Thanks for coming on my journey with me!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!
