The Break-In - update on status of the charity quilts

Earlier in the summer I told you how thieves broke in the church building and made a big mess and took some quilts.

Today I was able to get in the building and check out what was taken and what wasn’t.

Well, here is the GOOD NEWS!

They didn’t take many.

My notebook said I had 114 quilts up there.

I counted 110 at the moment.

That means that I lack 4.

But Wait!

I had told the lady we work with while I was in Florida that she could take a couple for some Ukrainian people she knew who had nothing. I don’t know for sure how many she took. If she took 2, then only 2 are missing. If she took 4 for her friends, then I didn’t actually have any stolen. I’ll check with her.

They didn’t take my quilt tops waiting for me to sandwich and quilt! These are all from my friend, Fran, In AZ. I’ve got to get busy this calendar year and get them done!

One thing - they made a mess, turned things inside out and dumped things all over. They opened my cupboards and flipped things upside down - zippers, for example! Grr.

It looked like they were looking for treasure in the trunks that were on the floor. The problem is, the “treasure” they wanted, apparently I didn’t have. They weren’t interested in quilt tops, fabric or zippers or thread, apparently.

I’m glad I had been faithful about keeping track of how many quilts I had in the room. I haven’t been so good at keeping track of the quilt tops. In fact, I quit trying with those as I kept taking them from my piles and putting them back in as I got too many in the house!

This is a sample of what else is in that room. Lots of thread!

They weren’t interested in my thread. Very grateful!

Here are the quilts after I restacked them all.

There are 40 quilts in the first pile on the left, and on the right, 30. This makes 70.

These are a total of 40 quilts here - on the left are the bigger quilts and on the right, the single sizes.

I hope to get some more of these done and have a give away this fall. I’d like to have 150 quilts ready for the give-away. At 110 now, that means I want to have at least 40 more done. That’s my immediate goal! Sitting downstairs I do have some ready to bind - but I’m busy working on the quilts I’ve already sandwiched and want to get quilted! To me, that’s the hardest part though the part I like the least is sandwiching!

Anyway…Just wanted to let you know that the break-in for my quilts, anyway, wasn’t as bad as I had thought from my husband’s pictures - without being to be here in person to check! I am ever so grateful!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!
