Noble Packages - Family #6 update
Wow. This family of 10 lost their home in October to a fire. They had been building a new home on their property but it was only the four walls - dried in - as we say. They’ve been sleeping in it since the fire at the older house. I’m glad they had this place to go!
Anyway, when asked about their specific needs - the volunteer just said “Imagine you lost everything and had to start over.” So I did. Since there are a mom and dad and 6 children - all teens or above - and a grandma and a special needs adult son who also live there - I had quite a time getting them things. These bright boxes were mostly filled with food.
Individually they didn’t get all that much, but we gave them a lot for the family as a group. We got them a lot of the basic appliances as well as plates, utensils, microwave, food processor, mixer, toaster, vacuum cleaner, kitchen storage items, a knife set, pots and pans set plus two additional LARGE pots (for a family of 10 I thought a couple of very large ones for soup or other goulash type dishes would be perfect). Plus we have them about $1000 in gift cards to a home repair shop so they could maybe get some cabinets for one area of the house - or whatever they need - toilets, etc. We gave them three tablets and headphones as they have three children in school and we are having school at home sometimes these days. We also gave each of them hats/gloves, scarves, etc.
We also gave them $75 per person to buy shoes and add socks or whatever else the shoe store sells. I did notice that shoes here are more expensive than the USA for decent ones. This way they can get a pair of good shoes and spend the rest on needed things as they also sell slippers and socks (wallets and purses as well) at the shoe store - so they can get those with the extra money should they have some.
We also gave them two nice rugs - secondhand but in nice condition.
All together, we gave this family about $9000 worth of things for their home and personally - so you all were very, very generous. Thank you! I tried to get them quality items with practical value. This should help them immensely as they try to recover from the fire. They had a total of 86 boxes which included a table and 8 chairs. This is what they asked for - though I would have loved to have found one with 10 chairs!
That last day my phone ran out of battery at their house. They did not open their presents while we were there - for which I was grateful. It was simply too late.
We went there on Sunday afternoon - after we had been to one other family. The only thing we did was asked them to open the sewing machine, book, cover and set of accessories I gave them in a plastic box. We also had the dad open the gift cards and made sure he understood them so they didn’t get lost in the inevitable chaos that was going to ensue when they had all the presents opened. We let them open their presents in peace without bystanders.
Here are a few pictures of what time - when we delivered presents.
It took about an hour to get back home in the dark. We were really out in the boonies - and I was ever so relieved to get home!!!!
We would like to get invited back out there to see their farm - maybe in the spring when the days are a bit longer. :) We’ll have to see.
Tomorrow I’ll talk about the last family. I need to get these finished before the end of the year! Thank you again for all your help with this effort! We appreciate you - and this family will enjoy these things for years and years to come!
Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming along with me on my quilting/sewing journey!
Be sure to check out what my sis has for you in the store here!
Here’s one of the beauties we have!
