This quilt top is one I nailed from the beginning when I saw that I had a jumper made with this fabric. I wanted to save it and feature these fabrics - in other words, I didn’t want to cut it all into little strips which would then eliminate some of the “that’s a nice print” effect when you see it.

I also have not used it any other of the quilt tops to date. (I will use the leftovers now in other tops from here on out.)

There are scenes all over this print, so while I tried to more or less “fussy cut” the areas, when I had a chance to focus on something - I did. For example, the quilt show tent at the fair - I managed to fussy cut that area.

Otherwise, I just cut big 9.5” squares and built the block around those various scenes. I had just enough - a little bit leftover - but not a lot.

I used a lighter gray around the 9 patch cornerstone blocks and the darker gray around the scenes. That’s partly because I wanted the lighter gray look in an effort to make a sort of twinkling look to them. Not sure I succeeded there, but I tried. :)

There isn’t a whole lot of difference in my very light greens and some of the grays - oh well. I did notice that when I worked on it but decided to just go with it and see what would happen when it came together. Either it would work or it wouldn’t.

Whatever.

These are the struggles of using up second-hand fabrics - esp. since I’m trying not to add more greens to the stash.

(I did fail the other day and headed to the second-hand shop because I was parked very close by for another errand and came out with another duvet cover that was two-sided - green plaid and green striped. However, it is designated to help with backings with all of these tops I’ve been making - and the stripes - for binding - it’s lovely. You’ll see it.)

I wanted to use a up a lot of my very light (boring) greens in the background of this one - and I did. They were mostly sheets, but there were parts of some shirts here as well. My ideal would have been to have enough of one very light green to help it all blend together better - but I didn’t have enough of any one single pale green. But that’s encouraging to me - because you know what that means, right? It’s going the way of ‘bye-bye’ - as in being used up in quilt tops! Yeah.

I am thinking that when I quilt it - and I quilt the greens all the same, that it will help meld them together. I think it will get them under control. :)

I am currently working on three more different tops (UP Greens) - and I’m starting to feel it - once I got this top together and realized that I had whittled those very, very light greens down to almost nothing - well, comparatively speaking - I decided to examine my pile of greens once again. I sorted, refolded and designated some for cutting into strips. I wanted to see where I stood on this project. My goal is to get all the second-hand greens to fit into two big plastic bins - not 5 or 6 plus various bags here and there.

I had this top all done before Christmas, but then had to fold it up as I didn’t have the time to lay it out on the floor and get photos and such (or think about it much) until after Christmas day because we had company that day. Thus there are some soft creases in it - because I didn’t want to go and iron the top again since I’m putting it in the pile of UP Greens tops to be finished.
