"Spacy Stars" - UP Greens #5 top finished

I really am going to up the level of green in these quilts. At this pace, I’ll have so many quilts and not much green used up. Not fast enough, in my book.

But I had this one designed and planned, and decided to go ahead and make it up.

In doing so, I discovered that apparently I like using a lot of cream/off white second hand fabrics in my Upcycled series of quilts.

As a result, I am about OUT of this off white. In fact, I went closer to white here than I wanted to - as I had something in my mind - but when I went to my source/supply, I had to change it a bit.

Oh well.

It’s how it is.

I had accidentally posted this layout on Facebook a while ago - on those “stories” - that disappear after a while. I don’t generally use that feature, so if you see another something of mine, it was an accident!

A couple of you all wrote me and asked me what the name of this one was/is. I hadn’t named it at that time and I was surprised they had seen it. I had thought I had just shown it to my sis.

Anyway…here’s the top.

Someone told that it reminded them of Edyta Sitar. I like her stuff, so I consider that a compliment!

(It’s mine, though - I did not see this one on the ‘net anywhere that I know of - though with such a basic design, it is probably there somewhere!)

It is simply the Ohio Star on point - and one of the stars has squares in the corners. It actually wasn’t as hard to make as I thought it would be.

The one thing I had aimed for was a significant difference in a more rose color for some of the star centers than I ended up with. I even used the back side of a shirt as it was more faded than the front - at least part of it - but it wasn’t significantly different.

I had a hard time as I didn’t really want a PINK - but a rosey red - more of a faded red - the diagram will show what I aimed for. And I didn’t succeed. But it was because I didn’t HAVE that color in my upcycleds. So there you go. You can see that I don’t always get a slam dunk with what I’m going for.

Just the same, I’m okay with what I did.

I’m going to try to make it a point to make at least the next two “not on point”. I find myself going for the on point layout more than I wish. Why “more than I wish”?

Well,

It seems to take longer to put them together once the blocks are done. Maybe it’s my imagination, Maybe it’s because I’m more often than not putting in sashing as well!.

Does it seem to take longer to put together for you as well? Let me know in the comments.

This top uses two different star blocks plus pieced cornerstones and nonpieced sashings. I used a solid piece for the side setting and corner setting triangles. I liked how it turned out!

All the same, I’m determined to make the next few “more green/less white/cream”! It’s just that I find green hard to work with - so maybe this is my way of easing into the series.

(But I do have the next two planned, and have pulled the fabrics. PLUS, I’m already cutting 1.5” strips to make a green/white “Checkered”. )

Here’s the blue/white one I made.

So far, in case you are wondering about the UP Green series so far - I have these (tops) finished -

Oh, and I’m starting to get way more interested in this series! I suppose just starting has helped me!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!
