A Call for Your Input

Charity Quilting!

A lot of you do at least one charity quilt a year. Many of you do many more than that!

If you have time to comment in the comment section below, I’d love to hear from you IF you do any charity quilting of any sort - and I’m putting quilts for veterans in that category.

My definition of “charity quilting” means that you are making quilts or tops or quilting quilts for people that you do not know personally but are donating your effort/time/materials to help another person/church/organization/effort. It can be ‘very organized’ or less so.

Can you help me? I love to get a better overall idea of what all is out there.

So far, I know there are these types of places/groups:

  • Homeless shelters or just “the homeless”

  • Women’s shelters

  • Fire stations or other emergency responder situations

  • Children’s homes/orphanages

  • Veterans - such as Quilts of Valor

  • Hospice

  • ICU nurseries

  • Nursing homes

  • Individual mission agencies or other people making trips overseas to distribute

Can you add to this list? Do you help any of these types of groups? Do you prefer to help national groups or do you help locals agencies? Do you have any names or groups you can link to?

So, here you are - it’s your chance to share with us YOUR favorite group/organization that can use charity quilts.

As a caveat, yes, I do a lot of charity quilting because I’m in Poland. If I lived here in the USA, I’d have to reevaluate and maybe change focus a bit.

If you have a story behind how you got involved with the group you work with, I’ve love to hear it.

I was brought to thinking about this especially today because my brother in law’s sermon (Rachael’s husband, Ken) this morning was, in part, about Dorcas in Acts 9 who was a woman of good works. In fact, after she died, the ladies she influenced and helped gathered around and showed the tunics and other clothing items she made for them. How’s that for a testimony to her good works?

This was a photo I took last year when I was working on our organization’s quilts for 2020.

It reminded me of those funerals I’ve seen on the internet where the churches are filled with the quilts that the lady made who had passed away and her family gathered them and brought them to the church as a testimony to her generosity and tribute to her skill.

What a blessing we can be to those around us if we have the energy/health and funds to be able to do!

So…here’s your chance. Tell us your story - where you donate, how you got interested and anything else you want to say about your organization.

Thanks!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Thanks for coming on this journey with me!
