So what do I watch when sewing?

things I listen to.jpg

We don’t actually get tv in our home - at least I’ve not tried it on any tv that we use as a smart tv for the internet.

So, everything I do watch is coming in the home via the internet.

I find that it is hard to watch short videos while sewing as it is distracting to have to keep changing or finding something else. I find most videos about sewing themselves also difficult as I don’t like to have to look up all the time at the screen to know what is going on. Sadly this means most quilting videos are really not watched while I sew. It’s just too hard.

Audio Books

In the past I listened to audio books that I checked out digitally from our local library. My library card has expired, however, and I need to call and get it activated again. (The card is based in FL and since our permanent mailing address in the US is Dade City, that’s where I can get a library card.) I need to remember to do it when the library is open. You should definitely check into it - if you’ve not heard of it. You are allowed to check out a certain number of audio books at a time for free. It’s really a good deal! You never have to worry about an overdue fee since when it expires, it just leaves your account and becomes unavailable. Our library has an app called “Libby” that makes it easy.

You Tube

So since I’ve not been listening to audio books, I’ve been listening to/watching You Tube. I have a few channels or types of shows that I do enjoy watching - including

  • some dumpster divers (I’m amazed at their nerve - not sure I’d have the adrenalin to do that though it would be fun to find things even though I don’t need much at all!),

  • storage locker buying/selling things,

  • a couple of sewing channels including an Australian seamstress or two or vintage sewing though I tend to have the same problem with any sewing type channel as I do with quilting as there is usually a need to just look up often.

  • a guy who runs a channel called Craig’sListHunter - he’s a Polish/American who runs a trading post near Chicago,

  • a few gardening channels including a farm family life update - Veggie Boys

  • several crime channels like True Crime Daily, 20/20, CDC, Fifth Estate, FBI Files, and various true crime drama stories,

  • Judge Judy and

  • a couple of cooking shows that my sis told me about.

Longer shows are better for me than a 10 minute video.

Curiosity Stream

I have also subscribed to a website called Curiosity Stream - you can find it here - and it is full of documentaries which are nice and long and actually pretty interesting! Subscription is very reasonable for a year (no affiliate link here - just telling you what I’ve done).

MLB.com

We also subscribe to MLB.com and during baseball season, I like to watch both Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays. Last year was strange, as you know, and I didn’t watch as much as normal as it was all just weird. Since the Rays did so well last season, I was interested, especially at the end of the season. Pre-season games are going right now but they don’t keep my interest as well as regular season games do as the level of intensity is just so casual and I am not as much of a fan that I feel like I need to know every detail about every single player that is out there. Not THAT interesting to me.

EuroSport

During the winter, the last few winters, I watched a lot of skiing. I did not do that this year even though I do have a subscription to EuroSport because once again, the on-again/off-again dealings made it hard for me to even want to watch so I did skip this past season of skiing or ski jumping. That is pity because I don’t particularly enjoy watching bike racing which is the huge sport on EuroSport during the summer season. However, I disliked the “is it going to happen or is it going to be cancelled?” question even more than I minded skipping it altogether. It helped my psyche to not even be involved intellectually this past winter with any of it.

So tell me,

If you watch or listen to something while you sew, what do you enjoy?

Do you prefer the golden sound of silence and your own thoughts or possibly use the time to pray or meditate?

And by the way, If you are looking for a Bible app, I’d like to recommend Bible.is app for your phone - audio Bible is quite good with this app! I’ve really never used it on my computer. For computer use - Bible information, I like Biblegateway.com

I’d be curious to hear your thoughts about what you like to watch/listen to! Feel free to tell us in the comments!

Thanks for coming along on my journey with me!

Have a great day wherever you are reading this! Stay safe!
